Dr Al
Hi, I'm restoring a Parkside Dundas 20T LNER loco coal wagon kit which has seen better days. I don't have the instructions, and therefore I don't know the correct livery that this wagon should be painted - I would use it on a BR steam era layout, and Dundas's website blurb says such wagons were incorporated into general coal moving stocks in BR days. Presumably the two likely liveries are BR Bauxite, or BR light grey - does anyone know what is correct, or can point me in the direction of photo evidence? I can find nothing online so far. Thanks,Alan
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted December 3, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 3, 2014 Hi Alan Is it vacuum braked? If so - bauxite If not - grey Cheers Phil
Mark Saunders
Assuming it is PC 31 the all steel 21t wagon, then the livery would be unfitted grey, there is a photo of E300843 in 1967 in Tatlow LNER wagons vol 4A. Mark Saunders
Il Grifone
Wagons stopped being branded 'LOCO' around 1952, but I am sure the branding lasted longer. (Repainting wagons was not generally a high priority.) These would have been uprated to 20 tons during the war. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=lner+loco+coal+wagon&client=firefox-a&hs=9gG&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=sb&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=pFh_VOGqBYneauTBgcAN&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1372&bih=799#rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=sb&tbm=isch&q=lner+20t+loco+coal+wagon
RMweb Gold A Murphy Posted December 3, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 3, 2014 If it is the wooden bodied one with cupboard doors, these would not have been vacuum fitted as far as I am aware - early unfitted grey, black solebars. hmrspaul
There is a nice early BR period photo of E184928 on my site. Not much sign that the wood has any paint on it, the steelwork is clearly in grey with the frame black. Nice large LOCO. Paul
