Scenery and Backscenes at Missenden Abbey

Places on the Spring Weekend at Missenden Abbey (6th to 8th March 2015) have been going fast, so much so that 53 people have already booked but there are still places on all the courses.  Bedrooms at the Abbey are now fully booked but there is good B&B accommodation nearby - a list can be downloaded from the Missenden Modellers' website.

Barry Norman is the usual tutor for the scenery part of the weekend but he is not available in March.  Instead, we have secured the services of Paul Bambrick, perhaps best known for his 3-dimensional backscene on the magnificent 7mm layout, Bucks Hill.  Paul is a professional modeller who, beside making backscenes makes dioramas and other models so this weekend is a rare opportunity to work with him and have his input on your project.

You can find details of the Missenden Railway Modellers' Weekend on their website.  Paul Bambrick has a website of his own, Bambrick Studio.

If you have any questions, please send me a note via the Contact page of the Modellers' website.

I see that aprt from Gordon and Maggie Gravitt, Chris Gates was mentioned in the construction of Bucks Hill.

I mention this because I knew Chris when he had his own engineering company in Marlow - he lived at Bourne End - and we became quite good friends after he had designed and built a tile punching machine for me and delivered it in the back of his Volvo estate - it must have weighed a good 2cwt !! - then suddenly he packed up his business and went around hanging wall paper for a living instead ! - or at least that's what I heard ( My missus at the time said that with Chris standing at 6ft plus and with looks to match, he had no business being in engineering anyway and should have been in the movies instead !)

I last saw him a few years ago at York ( with Bucks Hill ?) and haven't seen or heard of him since.

A truly great guy in every respect.

Cheers.

Allan.
