I've just successfully installed loksound sound decoder in my Bachmann 57. Sounds great, but WAY too loud! Can someone please walk me through reducing the volume with my NCE POWERCAB? Tried F12 didn't seem to do anything, but I'm not really very competent with this controller yet, and don't really know how to work this function...... Thanks in advance...

CV63 controls the overall sound level.

0 - 192.

May I give a newbie a little bit if advice.

When you get a new sound fitted loco or fit a new chip, before you do anything, go through the most important CVs and make a note of the settings.

CV2 Start voltage

CV3 Acceleration rate

CV4 De-celleration rate

CV5 Voltage at max-0throttle

CV6 voltage at mid-throttle

CV63 Sound level.

Each time you change one, also note the new value, keeping a record of the old one(s). You'll then have a history of what you have done to a chip's most important settings.

It can be very useful to be able to re-set these yourself one by one, in the future instaed of a complete re-set..

If you are happy with the sounds, stick with one sound supplier so that all the F keys are always the same (hopefully)

If you're not happy, change quickly to one you are happy with and stick with them

Of course, to avoid differing F keys from differing suppliers, you could invest in the gear to be able to re-pam the F keys so your are all the same.

Best of luck

Dave

Or use ZIMO sound decoders which are so easy to move sounds and functons around that anyone with a DCC controller can remap them to any F key in seconds. No additional gear to invest in as you already have a DCC controller, right?

Dave, i wasn't the OP but really appreciate your advice on writing down the original settings. Wish I had done that before a couple pf my locos got their CV's messed up.

Tomorrow night's job is to write them down for all my locos.

Many thanks,

Colin

Hi

How to change the sound volume -

(Note - the max setting in a v3.5 chip is 64, in a v4 it is 192)

Select the loco on the power cab and get the sound on (F1)

1. Press the 'PROG/ESC' key - the display will change to 'PROGRAM ON MAIN'

2. Press 'ENTER' - the display will change to 'PROG LOCO' and the loco number will be displayed

3. Press 'ENTER' - the display will change to '1=ADR 2=CV 3=CFG'

4. Press '2' - the display changes to 'PROG CV NUM:'

5. Press '6' then '3' then 'ENTER' - the display will change to 'ENTER VALUE:'

6. Enter the value you want - try '3' then '0' then 'ENTER' - you should notice clear difference in volume - the display changes to 'PROG CV NUMBER' - repeat from step 5 to adjust up or down.

7. Press 'PROG/ESC' to return to normal operation

As Dave recommends above - make a note of all cv's

I wouldn't try the programming on the main for most cv changes, but it works for volume (63), acceleration (3), deceleration (4), max speed (5) and medium speed (6) - for everything else I would use a programming track - just in case!

Hope this helps step you through it

Andy
