380John
Hi guys, Many moons ago when I was a young lad, my grandfather (who has recently passed) an ex Doncaster railway man, gave to me for Christmas an airfix royal scot which he had kept hold of until I was about 6 years old. I'd had basic oo loops as a kid but only started building a 'layout' earlier last year. On my basic loops the royal scot had plenty of hours of use. And then about 12 years ago it threw it's hand in. With a lack of knowledge and sources to help me, I decided to remove the traction tyres, the flimsy wires connecting tender to loco were separated (almost broken already) and I took apart the motor to see what's inside! Anyway that was the end of it! Until Wednesday night when I found all the gears and managed to rebuild the motor. It runs!! Much to my surprise but it was then I realised that the problem all along and probably the reason it threw it's hand in years ago was the fact that on the small gears between the tender wheels there are some teeth missing from the gears. A simple fix I believe but I cannot source replacements, I emailed peters spares but unfortunately he doesn't have any. Anybody out there know of a place I can find some or whether a similar gear(s) could be used? I know they are old but out of sentiment I would love to see her run again! Many thanks, John

TheWeatheringMan
Hi John you could try East Kent Models - Hope you have some luck Chris Hi John, Unfortunatly due to the time that has passed since production ceased this could be a problem. However Hornby have produced the ex Airfix tender drive units for both the LMS 4F and the GWR Dean Goods so it might just be possible to obtain the relevent gear as a Hornby part - although its several years since they too were made, but still more recently than Airfix. I have recently built an etched chassis for a Dean Goods and have a spare tender drive unit that just may provide these gears. If you have no luck please get back to me as i'm contemplating selling up all my OO equipment and moving onto other things. Regards
