It's probably not the most helpful comment to you but I reckon on that basis that you've definitely not got the right answer for 13 across. ;)

So it's not just me then! Thank goodness, now I can work on my alternative theories!

On second thoughts, I'll just go back to the Lunester Lounge and discuss particle physics!

Phew... I always get frustrated with crosswords, especially if I manage to do quite well to start with then get stuck with just a few left... so I'm glad its not a modern image prize, or I'd feel compelled to have a go! :jester:

[EDIT - typo]

16 Across.

I know were it is... but what has a Council HQ got to do with a Loco Number. Even the Hornby part number doesn't fit!!!

13 Across.

Even using his alternate titles makes this a bit of a chew.

1 Down.

Could there be two answers to this? Both fit.

Three, maybe four... to go.

Well that seemed to be quite a tough one for everyone and I know a lot of hard work trying to track down something close to the right answers was put in by all participants. Even if you didn't complete the puzzle I hope it was entertaining at least.

Right so here are the correct answers:

It took until Friday night until a 100% complete entry came in (an honourable mention to Ramrig, The Stationmaster and Norwenglish who did very well) and there was only the one completely correct solution offered and that was Porcy Mane whose submission below shows the answers in full. Well done!

I got quite a lot of the names, but not the right numbers to go with them!

It was very enjoyable even though I didn't get far enough to submit an entry.

Blimming Heck...

I wasn't expecting that. Must admit to not knowing that class 98 tops numbers for preserved loco's didn't exist until last week. Mr Google to thank for finding that out for me and it had me scratching my chin & looking skywards for a good long while.

Kept me out of mischief for a few hours though.

Now were did I put that Great Western track plan....

Thanks'

Porcy

Edit:

Hang on a mo. I haven't' won.  17 Down? 50043 eagle. I had 60023. "Golden Eagle" and had typoed on Cheltenham. Time for a draw.

Sorry guys!

I'd been pre-occupied with the other side of the puzzle! Thank you to Mr Mane though.

On that basis the winner will be Ramrig with one incorrect answer.
