Absolutely Astonishing!

Posted by KH1 , 16 October 2018 - - - - - - · 156 views

I have just got back from seeing the premier screening of Peter Jackson's new film in conjunction with the Imperial War Museum and as the title suggests my astonishment knows no limits! I actually only found out about this at the weekend but obviously wasn't a complete secret as I certainly wasn't alone in the cinema. Unfortunately I wasn't invited to th...

An Educational Trench

Posted by KH1 , 12 October 2018 - - - - - - · 252 views

An Educational Trench You all know the usual excuses about how long it is since the last post so won't repeat them here! There are things going on but at an admittedly slower rate than previously. One thing that I have been meaning to do for ages is an educational aid - something to more adequately explain what all the stuff going past on the trucks is for. Some of it is rathe...

It is a hobby - It is not a punishment - I am enjoying it!

Posted by KH1 , 16 July 2018 - * * * * * · 598 views

This became my mantra for the past three days at Tracks to the Trenches 3. An exceedingly hot train shed as accommodation and an awful lot to do by mostly by myself. Not entirely by myself though so thanks must go to Richard, Simon (when he was not playing with the real thing), and the Pont du Ferme boys.
Heat led to some electrical difficulties but...

TTTT3 and magnets

Posted by KH1 , 08 July 2018 - - - - - - · 356 views

TTTT3 and magnets On the Tracks to the Trenches 3 web site there is a doomsday clock clicking down, guess it is not actually ticking down to doomsday but feels like it right now!
Just after the last show over three months ago I decided to ditch the Zamzoodle couplings and go for something else. Unfortunately much of these three months was taken up with deciding which...

24.3mm Axles - Help!

Posted by KH1 , 27 May 2018 - - - - - - · 218 views

Help - my patience - already stretched - is now at breaking (pin!) point! Into my stupidly hectic schedule (which explains lack of updates), I am trying to fit in what has turned out to be a pretty major project - to ditch the scale chopper couplings and replace with auto couplings that might actually stay coupled. I have settled on a heavily modifie...

Thomas Meets the Scrap Man and Pantograph Progress

Posted by KH1 , 08 April 2018 - - - - - - · 480 views

Thomas Meets the Scrap Man and Pantograph Progress Some very nice friends gave us all individual Easter eggs last week and mine was particularly appropriate. After looking at it for several days and decided that nibbling a little bit off his coal bunker wouldn't do any harm - how wrong can you be! Poor old Thomas literally exploded and on gathering up the bits really did look like the pile of bits you se...

An Epiphany

Posted by KH1 , 02 April 2018 - - - - - - · 397 views

An Epiphany Survived the Ally Pally show which turned out to be probably the busiest, most intense but also most interesting show yet. Also very well organised (thank you Nick), and for a big venue the staff were excellent which was a nice and welcome surprise. It has also led to somewhat of an epiphany.....
On both days I had to explain the operation of the la...

Ally Pally This Weekend

Posted by KH1 , 21 March 2018 - - - - - - · 422 views

Ally Pally This Weekend How many blog entries start with apologies for not updating for ages? Well this one won't - I shall end with my excuses! This is because I need to tell everyone that the layout is at the London Festival of Railway Modelling or the Ally Pally show for short.
Alexandra Palace, London, N22 7AY 24th - 25th MARCH 2018   Quite excited about this one...

Loads More

Posted by KH1 , 18 February 2018 - * * * * * · 362 views

Loads More Am afraid that this is still a bit of a work in progress which I was hoping to have finished this week but you know how things go......
Am continuing on my quest to get better loads for my wagons and more importantly complete loads for each one. As always I believe using pictures of what actually happened is the best policy so sorted out a few mainl...

Milling Around

Posted by KH1 , 25 January 2018 - - - - - - · 407 views

Bit of a first today as doing this in sweltering heat sat by the pool but sadly not in the Caribbean but watching little Iz prove yet again that she is an immeasurably better swimmer than I.  Am about to make progress in the reassemby of the pantograph milling machine. A beautifully over engineered scaffold tower has been borrowed and assembled arou...

Another show survived.

Posted by KH1 , 16 January 2018 - * * * * * · 497 views

Another show survived. Am now not feeling too guilty about missing the gym a couple of times last week as this weekends exertions at Stevenage have more than made up for it. Unlike the gym I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it one of the best shows I have been to for quality of exhibits, traders, organisation and visitors! A huge big thank you to Andy, David and Michael for al...

Stevenage Show This Weekend Just getting everything packed away for Stevenage show this weekend. As ever do come and say hello if you are visiting.

Black Leg Labour

Posted by KH1 , 07 January 2018 - * * * * * · 385 views

Black Leg Labour Finally managed yo do something I have been meaning to for ages. I have noticed that the black weed control material that I use as a curtain at shows doesn't quite reach the floor leaving a rather stark bit of red leg showing. No one has ever mentioned it but I have noticed! One can of black spray paint from pound land which coat - you guessed it, a day w...

A New Toy And Quite A Large One!

Posted by KH1 , 06 December 2017 - - - - - - · 461 views

A New Toy And Quite A Large One! As we are coming rapidly to the time of year for giving I have entered completely into the spirit and have given myself a rather large pressie! Of course money isn't important and it is the thought that counts and I have put quite a lot of thought and effort into this and only a modest amount of money so I am very pleased!
I have known about these f...

The Mysterious Cases of 200 Shells

Posted by KH1 , 23 November 2017 - * * * * * · 467 views

The Mysterious Cases of 200 Shells Actually the only mysterious thing about this case is why I am so mad to have started this in the first place! My search for new wagon loads has led me to loose another four days modelling time in the pursuit of realism misguided or not. This particular one is one that will actually go the other way to usual being spent artillery shell cases which were co...

Only Three Weeks Late!

Posted by KH1 , 17 November 2017 - - - - - - · 363 views

Only Three Weeks Late! Life has taken one of those unexpectedly busy turns in the last few weeks which is. of course good on many levels but not those that involve modelling or blogging about it. So, in the absence of anything new being created a quick update on some developments unveiled at last couple of shows.
Firstly a slightly unusual perspective on the layout from...

Last of the Summer Shows

Posted by KH1 , 26 October 2017 - - - - - - · 457 views

Last of the Summer Shows Sorry, just couldn't resist the title and I know it is now nowhere near Summer but when you see where the show is I am sure you will understand. I will probably get lynched up in Yorkshire tomorrow!
This was going to concern my further developments in the production of wire loads and all the pictures are ready to go but being way past midnight now t...

A real mixed bag

Posted by KH1 , 12 October 2017 - - - - - - · 587 views

Firstly a big thank you to everyone who helped out at Tewkesbury at the weekend - a really enjoyable show. I would have some pictures but only ones are on Simon's phone and he hasn't sent them me yet.........
All available time this week (and that is not a lot), has been spent trying to sort out problems from the weekend before the next show at the...

Tewkesbury Narrow Gauge Exhibition Tomorrow

Posted by KH1 , 06 October 2017 - - - - - - · 520 views

Tewkesbury Narrow Gauge Exhibition Tomorrow Just a quick one as really rather busy for reasons that should be obvious. Have had a bit of a gap since the last exhibition so plenty of time to sort out all the little issues and get things like track and wheels clean again - have I done any of it? Of course not! So mad panic here but hopefully meet at least a few of you tomorrow!

At last - the bus is finished!

Posted by KH1 , 28 September 2017 - * * * * * · 539 views

At last - the bus is finished! And it is with quite some relief that I can pronounce it finished at last - three weeks of quality modelling time - far more than I expected but I did do far more than I expected - which, of course, I should have expected! I am certain that I did take pictures of the intermediate stages but I can't find them now so you will have to make do with these. It...
