What to do with old Airfix/Dapol kits..

So I have a small number of Dapol/Airfix plastic kits. One of a BoB, a few of mineral wagons, some tank wagons and other assorted ones. Think theres a Schools in there somewhere too.

The BoB isn't going to be anywhere near as good as Hornby's current model, but I had the thought that it could well be usable to make up as a loco being taken to scrap without connecting rods and other bits. Could be an interesting challenge to model. It would also be just in the right era too for the Chilmark inspired layout.

A train of a few old locos destined to become tincans trundling past forelornly could work out well perhaps?

First I'll get on with building the Parkside CCT vans I have though.

Before that I need tea!

The best thing to do with the old Airfix/Dapol wagon kits is to build them! With a bit of detailing, and decent wheels and buffers the end result is pretty good.

Get some photos of the dismembered Southern engines that were at Dai Woodhams' yard and work from there. You'll have great fun trying to weather the kind of decrepidation (is this a word?) that grew into these fine beasts. There is also a cracking diorama of a 9f somewhere on the forum, being shown with all it's 'inards' to the world. Worth looking at for further ideas.

Found it...DOH!

Thanks for that.

Yes I saw the pictures of it when it was in MR. Cracking work. Perhaps a bit beyond my abilities at present I think. But certainly inspirational!

Scroll down a bit and you'll find some useful hints and tips to get the best from Airfix wagon kits from George Dent.http://www.georgeden...r.blogspot.com/Carl

Thanks, will have a look.
