This morning I replaced the tender to loco socket on the Kings tender, using the part left over from my 28xx. This is a much older part, (black circuit board), and built to a far higher quality than Hornby are currently using.

After installing a Lenz Gold and connecting the loco to the tender, it ran perfectly. Now just need to find a soloution for the other one (and hope that Hornby have sorted the issue on the 2016 King Charles II

While I try and work out how I am going to get the tender sorted, I have got on with finishing off the renumbering of the loco.

This follows my usual method. Removing the bufferbeam number with Microsol or IPA and applying Modelmasters plates.

The plate is carefully removed from its mounting bracket with a sharp Stanley knife, carefully felttled with a curved file to ensure a smooth curve (which doesn't overlap the lining that I am trying to save). To make things a bit easier I always remove the splashier / plate fitting off the loco to work flat on the bench.

While it was drying, the number plates were glued to the cab sides (completely covering the printed plates with no need to remove an excess)

Once dry the splasher assembly was then glued onto the footplate, and HMRS transfers were added to the bufferbeam.

It now just needs the remaining bits of the old lining removing, and of course sorting out that wiring.

The lower boiler doesn't fit to well, (my other two kings are perfect in this area), so it will need to be dismantled to try and resolve...

Next up will be a slightly more complicated job to do 6000 King George V, having now found a source for the bell (PDK). Just need to get it ordered....
