Retfordlad
Anyone recommend a particular Humbrol red for steam loco buffer beams ... I'm in the USA so alot of the Brit precision paints are unobtainable .. other colours I've done just fine but this one is a head scratch .. thanks ! bike2steam
Any darker red will do, they don't stay clean for long.

daftbovine
Red paint is often quite transparent, it looks better over an undercoat of grey or pink.
Retfordlad
Yep I know about the transparency of reds .. I work with making paints and try to put people off reds all the time recoats are horrendously time consuming for Harry Home Owner !
DCB
Plenty of people use signal red or LMS Maroon and it looks horrible. The GWR and WR buffer beam red is a distinctly orange shade and red weathers to a lighter shade so avoid rich reds
Retfordlad
And trying to apply red acrylic over black over spray .. oops. Not doing THAT again ...
