Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum and like to introduce myself properly before starting a new topic about the building of my new layout.

My name is André, 52 years old and living in The Netherlands.

The last layout i build was in N-gauge.

I really loved the nice rolling stock from Dapol and Graham Farish but it turned out to be too small for my eyes and i didn't enjoy it as much as i used to.

The decision was made, dismantled the layout and start over again (this time in 00-gauge).

Already bought my first Bachmann locomotive, a lovely Pannier Tank.

Hope to start a new topic soon about the progress of the new layout (a GWR branchline terminus).

André

Hi Andre

We are both newbies, I too am finding my feet, sorry centimetres :scratchhead: so welcome!

Noticing your interest in UK steam outline begs the question, what is it about the UK scene that attracts you, any European outline in the past, 'Andre' doesn't suggest expat?

My stable includes several European items, an HO Mallet tank - mainly because I 'discovered' the 'Vivarais' complex in the French Midi where they were the mainstay - and a 'Glass Castle', just 'cos I like the 'quirky' outline,  both Roco, plus miscellaneous, and probably inappropriate period rolling stock for the same reason.

You mention n gauge is a strain, if it's locating stock on the rails I notice some makers have self centring bogie to bogie 'springs' which partially solve that problem - providing it's a straight section!

Up gauging to 16.5mm track is a great decision enabling the use of a wide variety of scales, 00, H0, 016.5,0n30 [and Gn15?   :nono: ]  - 'The World is not big enough' - just change the back drops etc, etc to match the scale, ignore :blind: the giveaway sleeper pitch and enjoy them all :good: !

Good luck with your modelling    Peter

Hi guys,

Thanks for the welcome.

The reason to go for the British trains is simple, i love them  .

And there is so much to choose from but i will stick to a few GWR steam engines and one or two small diesels.

On the old Ngauge layout it was possible to run a rake of 8 coaches but now i'm switched to the "Orribly Oversized" like they say on the Ngaugeforum we will have to do with shorter trains.

André
