We often hear about good service from UK based shops, but much less so from overseas shops.

I ordered a model from Tecni Model in Livorno, Italy, at lunchtime yesterday. The model arrived in my office at 08:30 this morning. How about that for tip top service?! The packing was excellent too, delivery was via FedEx. I’ve ordered models from them before and found their service has always been superb. They have a very comprehensive range of Italian outline models, the website is easy to use and prices are normally competitive. They have a selection of railway models from other countries but their main focus is Italian outline.

As an observation, I’ve used several Italian model shops and found the level of service offered has been uniformly superb, I’ve never had an experience that was in any way negative, in fact none of them would count as average either. Some shops routinely include manufacturer catalogues in the box as a nice little extra. When talking to some enthusiasts here I’ve had a lot of comments that are quite negative about Italy in general and which in particular cast aspersions on Italian businesses yet I have to say that of all the model retailers around the world I’ve done business with I’d put shops like Tecni Model up with the very best.

Hi there,

Been searching on the name you provided and found that the shop name is TecnoModel . Looks to be an interesting website.

You're right, for some reason I got Tecni into my head. I must be going senile! That said, they're a terrific shop. I have had first class service from the UK shops that sell European HO too, shops like the Hobby Shop Faversham, C&M, Gaugemaster etc offer fantastic service but if you like Italian outline then the Italian shops offer an awful lot more than you find in the UK.

The actual shop is pretty good as well. I've been there a few times, pretty handy having an aunt living in the same town! Agree about the service - I've not had anything delivered the following day, but it's usually within 3-4 days. Always well packaged as well.
