RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted November 14, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 14, 2017 I am struggling to find the correct colours to paint the loading gauge and yard crane for Sarn, my GWR, ex Cambrian Railways layout. The first edition of “Great Western Way” says that loading gauges were white to a certain distance above ground, dark stone below and with black ironwork but white finials. The final bit is omitted in the second edition of the book. However, in the few photos I can find the ironwork does not seem to be black. I am not worried about the finial as my model (Mike’s Models of unknown vintage) does not have one. But has anyone anything more definite on ironwork colours please? When it comes to yard cranes I can find nothing except a statement (both editions) that cranes in goods sheds were medium grey. Again, any pointers would be most welcome (another Mike’s Model of ancient lineage, a design originally mounted on a wagon but according to the rather scant instructions later used as fixed cranes in yards). Instructions for loading gauges and yard cranes are near the end.INSTRUCTIONS FOR PAINTING BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES.pdf Edited November 14, 2017 by eastglosmog
