Monk Bar Model Shop (York)

I've had a search and no one seems to have mentioned this wonderful model shop in York (though not my local one).

Today I had an afternoon to spare in York, so wondered in to Monk Bar Model Shop. As the name suggests, it's right next to Monk Bar. But I suspect this shop makes a lot of money by selling items such as a Routemaster bus or a Hornby Flying Scotsman to foreign tourists, as when I was there I heard a few other languages being spoken such as Spanish and Mandarin.

I needed for my cakebox entry some buffer stops and Tamiya glue, but also got the latest edition of BRM. It was slightly confusing having two different tills, one for model railways and one for diecast/wargaming and everything else, but needless to say it's a great shop run by very friendly people.

I agree. It was my "local" shop when I worked in York (although we did have one in Pickering at that time, but he rarely had much in stock that I wanted and has since closed, although there is still a small shop up an alleyway that sells the basics).

Monk Bar is a great shop for a large range of 00 and N RTR, kits and some bits'n'pieces, but was particularly good for vehicles. The staff are certainly friendly and helpful. It is well worth a visit anytime you are in or near York, being, unusually, in the town centre (as defined by the city walls).

Amazing Mail order experience from them today. Bachmann l/c Hawksworth Pannier ordered less than 24 hours ago online just now delivered by courier. Well packed too.Competitive price coupled with great service.

Great to know......I’ll pass the thanks on to them as I usually work a couple of days a week there. I’m currently furloughed.

Never used Monk Bar Model Shop before but was after a Hornby Pecket B2 'Westminster' and saw they had a few in stock. Very quick turn around and excellent communication. Ordered Friday and, even allowing for the weekend, I still think having UPS knocking on  the door at 9.00am this morning is pretty good going.

Took a trip to Monk Bar Model Shop this afternoon while we were in York. Came away with all the items I needed and a couple of extra bits.

I’d recommend a visit if you’re in the city and have time to spare. It’s five minutes (if that) walk from the Minster.

Didn't realise they were open today,  I lodged in York last night and could have had a look this morning.

Excellent shop , I was going to go week before last but unfortunately started raining extremely hard and by the time it eased was time for my train back

And the take away sandwiches from Little Italy just 2 shops up are out of this world :)

I visited on Tuesday while in York for a few days. Have to agree, it is very conveniently located close to the centre and other attractions, was well stocked and I came away with everything off my list. Shame not to have a shop like this more local to me!
