Trev52A
Did anyone else see the film 'Inbred' last night (22nd January 2018) on the TV Horror Channel? (Or perhaps you are already familiar with it.) Without digressing into the plot(!) does anyone know where the scenes were filmed which showed several rakes of condemned railway coaches? Is it a real location, or a very convincing CGI setup? The film was shot on location in and around Thirsk in 2011, and the coaches seemed to be just abandoned out in the open in a field somewhere. They were mainly ex-BR Mk2 vehicles. There must have been over a dozen. Some of the scenes were filmed inside one of them. I have searched online for clues but 'Thirsk' is the only location mentioned. Just curious Cheers Trevor
RMweb Premium drjcontroller Posted January 23, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 23, 2018 Weren't there a number of Mark 2's dumped in a yard just off the A1 in North Yorks. They are no longer there, I believe they were scrapped when the land was purchased for the A1 widening project. The memory cells seem to think they were bought for a proposed preserved railway that never got off the ground. Douglas
Simon Bendall
The location was Sinderby, storage location/dumping ground for an individual's mostly Mk.2 collection, 47540 was also there. Most went for scrap when the land was purchased for the A1 widening but a few moved to a new location at Dalton. There's a few photos at http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/s/sinderby/index1.shtml and searching on Flickr and Google images will bring up others. Trev52A
Thank you both, gentlemen. That answers my query perfectly. Cheers Trevor
Phil R
Morning They were near the village of Sinderby, west of Thirsk. I had a vague memory that they had been collected by would-be entrepreneurs, including a dentist, who were looking at forming a railway company post-privatisation. (Could be talking out the top of my hat) However, another description I have read states it was a preservationist trying to preserve Mk IIs. Lots of photos online including - http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/75424 https://www.28dayslater.co.uk/train-graveyard-north-yorkshire-report.t61136 Regards Phil Edited January 23, 2018 by Phil R

Vanders
Does anyone know what actually happened to 47540? Disused-stations says it was moved to the Wensleydale Railway, but Rail UK says it went to CF Booths. I assume Rail UK is correct?
Phil R
Class47.co.uk has it disposed of by TJ Thompson of Stockton On Tees in March 2016, having been collected from Wensleydale railway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTims5NDE6I Regards Phil
Vanders
It looks like it got well stripped for parts at least, but how did it end up in BFYE?
Simon Bendall
It looks like it got well stripped for parts at least, but how did it end up in BFYE? It was given a coat of blue at the Wensleydale to make it more presentable.
