dibber25
MODEL RAIL April 2018 Issue No. 246 Publication date: 15 March 2018 This issue is all about saving space, and how you can have a layout even if you might think you don’t have the space. Here’s what we’ve got for you this month: Opening the box: This month’s news includes two pre-Grouping locomotives commissioned from Bachmann, plus lots of forthcoming new releases. Eilidh Price talks about art and inspiration and Chris Leigh recalls five bridges in deepest Middlesex. Layouts and features: Graham Bean’s ‘OO’ Tormouth Quay is just 7ft 6in by 18in. Paul Bambrick, on the other hand, created ‘The Running Shed’ in just 53in by 17in and it’s in gauge ‘O”. Workbench George Dent builds a baseboard kit for an ‘O’ gauge diesel maintenance shed, Peter Marriott goes urban and modern image and Chris Nevard builds a ‘OO’ layout to fit in a plastic storage box. Finally, Chris Leigh compresses a couple of miles of old Middlesex onto a shelf round an 8ft square room and gets captivated by ‘N’ gauge. Reviews: Hatton’s Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST, Dapol ‘N’ gauge Class 68, Oxford Rail GWR ‘Toad’ brake van, Bachmann teak Thompson coaches, ‘N’ Gauge Society ‘carflats’, Heljan Class 128 in ‘O’ gauge, Ebma Hobby storage units. Regulars: Know your stuff, Show & Tell, The Club Room, Exhibition Diary, Backscene.
Hroth
The reviews are a bit weird. The world and his wife are reviewing the Hattons Barclay, which isn't out in the wild yet, whilst the Oxford Toads (both 4 and 6 legged varieties, I imagine) have been hopping about for months now and have only just been collected for examination, as it were..... dibber25
We review the models as we receive them from the manufacturer. Hatton's sent us the Barclay a few weeks ago and we currently have the P class for review although that isn't available as yet. Oxford, on the other hand, tends to supply review samples at the same time as the item reaches the shops, so by the time it gets in to print, the model may have been available for a few weeks. Bachmann generally has the knack of supplying review samples early, so that the review coincides with item reaching the shops. So the reviews aren't really 'weird' - we do them as and when we receive the models. (CJL)
