rogerfarnworth
I wonder whether there might be an appetite on this Forum to discover more about these railways around the world. I have been looking at particular examples in the South if France in recent weeks. A funciular railway existed in Cannes until the mid-1960s and I am beginning some research on that now. There was a funicular railway in Grasse, the perfume capital of Provence which closed before the 2nd World War. You can find out more about this by following the link below to my blog .... https://rogerfarnworth.wordpress.com/2017/11/30/funicular-railway-in-grasse-chemin-de-fer-de-provence-23 There is a move afoot to construct a replacement for this old funicular and the blog provides links to the detailed proposals and some explanatory videos about the new scheme which has not yet been built. rogerfarnworth
In a parallel exercise, I wondered what use might have been considered of the rack-railway system in the foothills of Les Alpes Maritime and I discovered a cogwheel railway running north from Monaco to La Turbie in the hills behind the Principality. Here is the story ..... https://rogerfarnworth.wordpress.com/2017/11/23/monaco-to-la-turbie-rack-railway-chemins-de-fer-de-provence-15 Edited March 20, 2018 by rogerfarnworth
rue_d_etropal
I like the use of computer simulation. It is not just for creating virtual model railways of the past, but can give a very good moving image of what can be done in the future. Wuld like to see more of that type of presentation done.In fact how about a few models of railways/trams etc in the future. As for more on these type of railways, yes pleae, but maybe more on the various electrified local lines in France.

Hobby
That's a nice line. It connects to one end of the Tatra Electric Railway, I went there a few years back. You can do a nice day out by starting at Poprad, taking the train to Strbske Pleso, going up and down the Rack Railway and then going right to the other end of the Tatra Railway and then back to Poprad... Leaving enough time to visit the shed at Poprad which is about a mile from the terminus.
