steve1
On the BBC website it states: At least three of the 14 carriages left the tracks as the train reportedly approached speeds up 200 km/h (130mph)." (My italics.) Could this be accurate? Seems incredibly fast for Russian railways. steve
RMweb Gold Russ (mines a pint) Posted November 28, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 28, 2009 railfan europe website list the locos (CHS200)which I believed is the type used on this train as being capable of 200kph and there are a number of other passengers locos listed at upto 120/160 and some 180kph - If its a good section of line I guess 200kph would be possible, but maybe the maximum attainable (it does say up to- and you know what the media is like) rather than actual crash speed. The damage looks consistent with a high speed crash, but then you have to remember explosives involved too, must have been very unpleasant for all concerned.
