Dampflok
Certainly very sad indeed, but it doesn't look anything like De Aar, so is presumably at Touws River... I did visit De Aar in steam days and it's north of the Great Karoo, so trains from Cape Town would not change locos there to cross the Karoo as they would have already crossed it! I haven't been to Touws River, so I can't say that it's definitely that location... A few shots on my site taken in the area around De Aar, both south towards Beaufort West across the Great Karoo and northwards towards Kimberley on the double track "racing ground" also known as the "Steel Kyalami", commencing at: http://geoff-plumb.fotopic.net/p26343694.html Cheers, Geoff
Michael Delamar
thanks Geoff, I only knew of it, and had a fascination with it as Ive watched great train journeys with Michael Wood, many times growing up. I grew up believeing steam was still alive in south africa and wanted to go there to see it, I didnt know it went in the mid 90s :-( Mike
