  1. Cromer hospital was founded with donations in the 1800s, I'm pretty sure it would have been closed down by the NHS except for... In July 2000... "The £12 million Sagle Bernstein legacy and the £1.4 million Phyllis Cox legacy have both been used to fund the new Cromer Hospital. Construction work on the new hospital began on 1 September 2010 and work was completed on the new building in March 2012 with the new car park opening in July 2012 after the old building was demolished." Lead in pipes may not have killed a lot of Romans, but the use of lead acetate as a sweetener in wealthy Romans wine, many be a contributory factor in the insanity of several Roman Emperors. Meanwhile, MRC accounts updated, Spoke to neighbours EX who still owns the property, while he was down the hole for the wall extension. He's found a pebble flint wall down there ( 3 ft down there) but it goes off at a strange angle, not the same as the angle of my or his house. He's about to start filling the hole with a concrete & rubble mix. The rubble having been dug out of the hole, probably from the destruction of the pub formerly on my houses site. Ben took me on the full long walk... Tis quite warm out of the wind, lots of insects around.. Now off to play with the spinny thingy.
  2. There's two different types at least, a UV activated resin which has the properties you mentioned. https://www.amazon.co.uk/LETS-RESIN-Bonding-Seconds-Adhesive/dp/B0CVXG71CX/ref=asc_df_B0CVXG71CX/ and a UV activated cyanoacrylate super glue.. https://www.intertronics.co.uk/product/born2bond-light-lock-uv-cyanoacrylate-adhesives/ Mooring Awl, 5 hours sleep woke with great pain from left shoulder and neck, 2.5 hours sleep woke with no pain , must have been sleeping awkwardly. Ben was so out cold snoring this morning, that he didn't notice I was getting up, until I went to get my boots from the under stairs drawer. He did enjoy a happy patrol and explored a few areas we don't normally go, might be due to having cleared access over the winter and then kept it mowed.. It's another cold grey misty morning out there, the grass being wet due to dew and mist condensating on the trees. Plans for today.. Routine accounts for the MRC, otherwise known as a copy and paste of last months bank account into the spreadsheet then remove extraneous information especially blank spaces. .. Plus one minor change to the presentation of the quarterly accounts.. does not affect figures.. Activate banking machine for our show. Maybe spinny thingy again.. But first muggacoffee time
  3. I get home to find swmbo accidentally saw a bit of the British entry which seems to about men " enjoying themselves" in public toilets. She was most unimpressed , I suspect that the entry will go down like a lead balloon in many countries.. null points.. Personally if I had unlimited money for an amphibious aircraft, it would be an updated Sunderland.. The flying porcupine was most civilised in having a kitchen on board and six bunks... Just back from the MRC where en route I see signs.. road closed for three days from 20th May... Same place as last time... The MRC went well, I do like this UV activated glue, it doesn't set till you point the mini torch at it. Then it sets almost instantly.. Muggachoccy gone Goodnight Awl.
  4. I suspect my military records are on a paper tape somewhere.. probably eaten by moths..
  5. Afternoon Awl, Ben's sample deposited, more shopping done. The morning started sunny, but a sea harr came in, it's been chilly and dull ever since. So the fires been cleaned out, it seems the stove has no major damage. Just a couple of seals weren't happy, so that's been sorted. Shortly I'll put a light fire in and start warming it up. Spinny thing investigated , it stopped working again, but this time permanently, that allowed me to find the former intermittent fault. Broken wire soldered and sleeved. With it whirring again, that allowed me to start setting the machine up again. Then I had to return to the house just in case the vet phones, as swmbo was off out weaving, .. Spent an hour and a half, sorting magazines into piles keep, burn, and see if anyone wants them. Been searching for a new driveway gate, the current one won't last another year. Not looking forward to digging out the old posts , they are both hard up by walls, there's no other choice.
  6. If you remember way back in 1979-80 there was a TV detective series called Shoestring, that was mostly filmed in Bristol and Weston Super Mare. The outside view of the supposed radio studios was actually a multistory car park near the docks. In the series he'd run round a corner in Bristol and appear in WSM, then another and appear in Bristol. The great shame is the inspector George Gently, the books were based in Norfolk, but they moved the filming to the north east. Ironically it's star Martin Shaw lives in Norfolk just about a mile from my winter sailing compatriot. In films of course the commonly know local connections are the Swallows and Amazons films. Those based on the broads are familiar places I sail, in the books mention is made of Horning Staithe, just a hundred yards from the sailing club. Then there was... Which was filmed on the broads particularly in and around Hickling broad which is very near Heigham Holmes a secret WW2 SOE airfield. No military facilities as such were there, as it's only a couple of miles from RAF Ludham airfield and about 10 to RAF Coltishall.
  7. All I got on the Bear's link was an article about running.. The only time we put butter with bacon is with a full B.L.T. As for salt, we don't use it in cooking, we very rarely eat out or have a take away, ( ok I now have pie and chips on a Friday between R.A.D.A.R. museum and M.R.C. but that's summer only. I doubt we eat anywhere near 2.3g per day. Mooring Awl, Up early because swmbo got up early, an hour early for Ben's patrol, yes sample time for Ben again. After that Ben and me continued on patrol, which he was very happy about, but he cut it short, probably because SWMBO was up. Ben's gone back to sleep now, lying in the doorway making sure neither of us can escape without him. I could do with more sleep, I've had about 5 hours and have a headache. Like PhilW, I've awoken to pain that indicates a change in the air pressure. Unusually this time it's going up in pressure, normally I get it only when the pressure goes down. The forepaws are their normal light painful level, but my right ankle is particularly stiff and complaining. Though that maybe a result of all day on my feet for the boat show. Later I'll take the sample in, then find out if there are more pills for Ben.. After that, work may happen on the spinny thingy, as my brownie points are in negative territory having been out for all or part of the last 5 days.. Oh and fire stove needs emptying and inspecting.. Time for breaky.. Hmm that well might be a B.L.T.
  8. A few years ago A smelly dead fox was found in our garage, it was removed with a shovel and dumped in the field boundary jungle behind our garage. Afternoon Awl, To MRC, as most others hadn't arrived yet, three pieces of wood were cut to support the sink / cupboard. Some time was then spent discussing the accounts. Once the changes I'd thought of were included and another couple of minor hiccups were removed that someone else spotted, , we were down to £7.28, that too was resolved. And the sums now add up. I've mostly carried forward the changes into next year's spreadsheets. Some had already disappeared from that as I've reformatted the way they work to make it easier to produce each quarterly meetings results. I got back as swmbo was opening the back door to let herself and Ben back in from the long patrol. I've just spent an hour and a half mowing, but there's only so much sitting in the seat of the mower I can do.. it's quite warm out there too. The neighbour is extending the boundary wall between us towards the front. That will be good as Ben has found the gap a short cut to next door and he knows where their doggy sweety cupboard is..
  9. Mooring Awl, 3.5 hours sleep, long awake, 2.5 hours sleep , short awake, 1/2 hours sleep .. Ben the good Collie didn't get up till I did, he had a very good snuffle, going way ahead, not waiting for me.. Must be some interesting smells out there. Bright grey welkin, heavy dew.. Right ankle not happy, neither is right forepaw... The right forepaw has a hot palm.. something to do with forgetting my gloves yesterday, when you've got one hand on the tiller and the other on the mainsheet, when you ease the main, it's easy to let the mainsheet slide through the paw, ouch... Or the result of long cold ( ish) winter nights, no TV and not having seen their husbands for months. Also pregnant women's general dislike of hot temperatures especially of lowland India's summer. Of hot warmish temperatures, having had lots of recent rain. The jungle is growing rapidly, a mow is likely later if we avoid any of the promised scattered showers. Driving back from the SC yesterday, the answer to the problem of the accounts popped into brain. That will be sorted today. Since that will shorten the meeting somewhat I'll probably do a bit more woodwork at the MRC for the sink installation.. Our local butchers, I think would meet Il Dottore's approval.. https://cawdrons.co.uk/, very nice, and they do a very good filled baguette in the shop ( meat counter one side, baguettes the other as you go in..).. Time for.. a muggacoffee.
  10. That green stuff is nothing like what we have.. Where are the nettles, brambles, Alexander, thistles, and sycamore seedlings?
  11. Only a couple of pairs of twins.. both parents died soon after the last birth. The oldest children ended up adopting the youngest.
  12. Going back in my family one couple had 24 surviving children out of 26 births an incredible success rate for a mining family.
  13. AAfternoon Awl, Warm sunny day, I might be going a bit rusty brown.. Forecast notalota wind, and that's what we got for the first race, after that with the increasing heat inland, we got a increasing sea breeze. Unusually it's was mostly southerly. Race 1, course, 2p, Xp two laps.. So little wind the class before us was only a couple of hundred yards away when we started 5 minutes later. I made the best start but was quickly overtaken and dropped to second. When we reached the first bend we were tight up behind the previous fleet, the lead boat started over taking them and I started over taking my class leader. We drifted up to buoy 2 with BM on the inside for the mark I just had the over lap on our class leader, that was a 5 boat over lap with each outer boat being further forward. So I turned inside with two boats just outside, the other 3 drifted further up river with the incoming tide. Soon after tacking round, there was a temporary increase in wind and all the boat we'd just passed, swept past .. then it dropped again and I followed them round the bend. I chose to keep left out of the tide, several others went down the middle, BM overtook several boats, but then we had to move out to pass the X buoy, BM slowed and on the way down to the finish line, all but one boat passed BM.. That actually didn't matter because. Both the rest of my fleet and the fleet that started 5 minutes ahead are meant to be 7 % faster.. BM was well and truly first on handicap. Race shortened by one lap due to the lack of wind. Race 2, the prior fleet were at the first bend before we started.. Course, 2p, Xp, 1p, 5p.. Made a good start followed the leader all the way round the course, got an over lap a few times but never got past. Stayed close enough to win on handicap .. Lunch time.. Race 3 and 4, much the same but each one BM was further behind. So two handicap wins and two err somewheres. What I am pleased with was the way BM handled, the change of the mast angle has made her easier to helm, the alterations to BMs steering gear has reduced the effort needed. And... The boom doesn't hit my head any more.. Notes, Decided the seat needs more of a lean back, haven't worked out how to arrange that yet.. Measurements of the jib with the mast in this position have been taken , that with the previous measurements have confirmed the dimensions.. I'll start construction of the jib soon.
  14. Mooring Awl, 4 hours sleep, 3 hours sleep I needed that. Ben the good Collie didn't move till I did, we've been on patrol, scattered clouds notalota wind, heavy dew. Ben had a good snuffle around, but didn't seem quite as enthusiastic as normal. He gone back to sleep now. Almost time to head for the sailing club again.. but muggacoffee first.
  15. When working on radar we could play light sabres with florescent tubes.. no batteries needed.. but they only lit up every 15 seconds as the radar went round.. Evening Awl, Knackered I is.. Arrived 08:00 ish , banners and flags put up between guiding club show volunteers, and exhibitors into our car park by lunch time we were maxed out, i had to turn several non volunteer club members away.. Distributed several dozen MRC show leaflets to those that expressed an interest.. I have 3 left.. half a dozen said MRC ? Here where? So details of club passed on Distributed a couple of hundred radar museum leaflets to anyone who hadn't been to the museum.. Got many hundreds of people to go over to the sailing club, two club cars went out for additional food.. in excess of 100 adults went out for a sail plus about 50 children.. A couple of kids came down the sailing club dyke on a laser... There was a 40 ft highly polished varnished hull one side and a brand new fibreglass boat the other.. they had nowhere to go .. so their mast hit the foot bridge somewhat heavily, they were lucky not to break it.. Have warm knees and face from the sunshine. Had free muggacoffees and burger as SC volunteer.. Banners and flags down, Drove home, had food, with a doom bar. Eyelid inspection overdue.
