Foster Street - Driverless Locomotives - a Pet Hate

Its official the Domestic Overlord has confirmed that at the grand old age of 38, I am now a "Grumpy Old Man", and I am almost at the stage you can set your watch by one of may rants.   I don't think they are rants just mild essays into the areas of life that are beginning to grind my gears, and can range from the so called "Pull to open" tabs on anything from Ginger nuts to Washing powders which don't actually work, just leave you with a pointless piece of packaging in your hand, and the prod

Foster Street - Going To Plan? (I Think Im Clairvoyant)

One of the benefits to having feet the size of a Yeti, is that my shoe boxes are great for hiding (sorry storing my N gauge stock in) the only problem is I have lots of shoe boxes. I'm sure the Domestic Overlord must think I have some sort of shoe fetish   Anyway a couple of weeks ago I was looking for something, I cant remember what now, so had to search through a few of the boxes, which I always find is an enjoyable process, and its good to find those items you have forgotten buying.   Wh

Foster Street (Let There Be Light)

Well the good news is this will be a very short update, in fact it will probably take me longer to type this than I have actually spent modelling (I can use multiple fingers - the problem is it multiplies the mistakes )   Anyway I have made a little progress on the streets around Foster Street and as you can see the Street lights are starting to go up, even though with the advantage of the camera (pesky thing) some of them appear not to be totally vertical .   I have even started to add a li

Foster Street - I Need Help (Storage Yard Limitiations?)

Well the good news is that this post has no pictures (I can hear the cheers from here ), I've not done much modelling over the last few days, as with the demands of work and being a little off colour I have spent more time on the more "theoretical" projects.   As you know Foster Street in a continuous run layout, in an attempt to portray a secondary line somewhere in the Northwest, leading up to the dreadful day the LMS was nationalised .   The layout is approximately 11 foot long, but becau

Foster Street - Recovery Complete (Sage 3 - 8F Restoration 8660 Enters Trafic)

Well all this free time, has seen me in a frenzy of activity, well it would of, if the weather had not decided to gang up on me, it's too hot. Oh and my uncanny ability to find tasks on the layout that just eat modelling hours (more on that project on a future entry maybe).   Anyway in between super gluing my fingers together with a brilliant hit rate (have you seen how quickly this stuff sets in the warm temperature, I barely had time to mutter "Oh sh*@t " before they were stuck fast), and be

Foster Street - Recovery (Stage 2 - 8F Restoration)

Well the progress on restoring one of my 8F locomotives, to an LMS example has seen quite a lot of progress in a very short space of time.   Gone is the terrible LNER graffiti on her tender sides, and the number scrawled across her cab sides, and the area has been made ready to receive suitable LMS lettering and fleet number (I still have to chose a suitable number). The moulded coal load has been removed and replaced with a slightly depleted load of real coal.   I even have a suitable crew

Foster Street - Vandals Attack (Stage 1 8F Restoration)

What is the world coming too? you turn your back for two minutes and before you know it you're the victim of a bunch of brainless vandals.   Yes Foster Street has been attacked and horrific damage has been inflicted on the environment, will the layout ever be the same again? There was I being a busy little bee, and there was a knock at the from door.   I was only away 5 minutes, trying to explain politely to the salesman that although his product was environmentally friendly, it was not for

Foster Street - Weathering Stock (Part 1)

While work on Foster Street progresses, I needed another little task that was not directly linked to the layout, I basically needed a change, so I decided to turn my attention to weathering some of the stock to be used on the layout.   Prompted by a comment that my milk tankers seen in a previous blog where far too clean, I set out to do something about it, and I thought some of you may be interested to see how I do it?   I do not have an airbrush, so all of my weathering is done with old f

Foster Street - (Goods Yard - progress)

The Goods yard area of Foster Street, seems to have taken up a large amount of the time I have spent so far on the layout, which surprised me a little as it only comprises of three sidings.   Still there are a few tasks yet to finish, including the main one of adding some weathering to the area and a few more little people to populate the area, the Goods Warehouse has been built so that it can be easily removed, to allow me to get to any stock lost in its depths. I still have a few additions t

Playing Trains (Its Not My Fault - Andy Made Me Do It.)

Well if you read the Blogs by AndyRam you will see that the WESTON 2014 exhibition he is organising is shaping up to be the Model Railway event of the year, miss it and miss out (I think I have missed my calling in publicity ), the only thing that may put a damper on things is that Foster Street is booked to attend.   So in an attempt to break my record for the most consecutive days without gluing my fingers together I thought I would spend a little time working out what trains should fill the

Foster Street - the Blog Disaster

Some of you may have noticed that my blog entries had vanished from here, and I'm sure many of you are still sighing with relief. In one of my "blonde" moments I decided that I would delete some photographs from my gallery on here, my OCD tendency was satisfied and I was content with a job well done   Well that was until I noticed that the pictures had strangely vanished from my blog entries, yes I know its obvious now, but it was not at the time, but even more mysteriously the pictures are s
