50030 for the scrapline

Goodevening - today ive finished another 'withdrawn' loco which will join my two BR blue class 08s on the Laira scrapline. 50030 Renown - the loco is in revised NSE light blue - but for some reason got NSE dark blue cabs at one end -- nice! As its a withdrawn loco ive taken out the gears so its just free rolling , incase it needs to be shoved along a siding or something. Ive not gone too far with the weathering - as i saw the real loco when it has just been laid up, and it was still in pret

Bachmann class 47

Goodevening - a quick post tonight. Im not the greatest class 47 fan in the world - so my preference at the moment is the Vitrains 47 over the latest Bachmann one - as the Vitrains model is a bit easier to work on , more P4 friendly , and looks better (IMO). I have ended up buying the Bachmann Parcels livery 47474 though - as its the exact loco that i wanted for my collection i it woudl have been silly to respray a vitrains one when i could just get a Bachmann one off the shelf, correct

Starting the layout -

I'm asked alot if I have a layout to show my 4mm stock on - but I don't - mainly becase I spend too much time doing the stock However - finally today I got stuck in and made a start on trackwork , having built some baseboards last year.. The 'layout' im going to build , is not so much a layout , but a thing to display my stock on, in an appropriate setting. It will be a very simple handfull of sidings based on Lipson Vale sidings at Laira . I want to have as little scenery as possible

withdrawn class 08s

Goodmorning , Today Ive got on and done a bit more to 08839 and 08 . Both locos were withdrawn at laira, and are modelled as i saw them around 1992-3 when theyre were on the scraplines. Both locos have been resprayd into faded BR Blue - ive had to interchange various parts on the Hornby model to give the locos the appropriate style cab doors and strapping either side of the cab windows on '821. 08839 has Oleo buffers fitted to one end , which are by Markits. The job today has been foit add all

More hoovers (i did warn you)

Every time I make a class 50 , i swear it'll be my last, because the job of reprofiling the nose and making new windscreens is such a pain - i hate it! At warley i got some new shawplan class 50 windscreen frames, , and was lucky enough to find a cheap Hornby 50 to stick them on aswell . These new frames make life so much easier - they fit over the existing Hornby windscreens - after the moulded beading has been smoothed down. The top of the nose still needs building up with a little fille

Class 50s

Goodafternoon- time to try out this blog thing, as i havent really posted anything since the previous version or RMweb (when i was scheihallion). Im working on the last few locos for my collection of stock for laira , based around early 1990s when the class 50s were on thier last legs - shiny new 158s and 153s were arriving, and HSTs were all smartly turned out in Swallow livery - and new livery for Mail trains was about to appear, which would divide opinions...   Anyhow - weeks ago i b
