4101 Dubs 0-4-0Tcrane project part 2 update

Not too much has happened since part 2, the crane is now complete and painted ready for mounting on the locomotive when it's built. I'm just in the process of making out the orders from Mainly Traiins for the various detail parts such as Alan Gibson wheels and universal coupling rods, Mashima 1220D motor and a suitable gearbox yet to be determined.

I have no experience of chassis building or fitting motors and gearboxes, this is a complete learning curve for me so it's fingers and toes crossed and bite the bullet.

I'm ordering from Alan Gibson their LM1-97 milled brass L&Y pug chassis frames together with a pack of various frame spacers. I've chosen the pug chassis because in the photos the wheel arrangement looks very similar in appearance to the Dapol pug kit.

The crane has been loaded on to a flat wagon and shunted into a siding until it's required again

Just as it was while its loco was being refurbished. The crane is seen here at Caverswall Road on the Foxfield Railway, awaiting re-uniting with its engine.

I would recommend having a look at High Level's range of gearboxes, there's bound to be one that suits.

And that crane looks rather good so far!

Nicely done. I think you have captured the feel of the thing very well. Top marks for estimation jiggery-pokery!

I like your work in progress being 'hidden in plain sight'! Saves on storage :)  That piezo riveter looks intriguing too. One of these next?

Really nice work.

Can see this is going to be something special. Also it's taking your projects in a new direction which will be good to see.

Paul (Halfwit) is right and about the High Level gearboxes. Well worth a look.

Look forwards to the next instalment.

Cheers,

Mark
