Subsidence and anti cat measures
Having erected two of the baseboards in my office last week and being rather alarmed at how vertically misaligned one of the loops had become i have worked out the reason. Strictly speaking though it is not subsidence but more like separation. I have realised that the outer card layer has parted company with the foam core of the foam board underlay taking the track with it. Luckily is just on one track but being at the baseboard join it is rather inconvenient to say the least. I will try to run some glue in and then clamp it down but failing that shall have to resort to some brass screws and solder. Not what I had intended as did want the track to be as floating as possible.
Now, onto my other concern - 'this is a railway and not a table!' and 'get off you bl###y animal!' I had a brief moment of triumph over my wife when I caught her writing a card, leaning on the layout. 'But it is in the way' 'Ah!' said I 'but if it wasn't here there would have been nothing too lean on!' Well, she couldn't really argue with that! OK, so it is not a real problem yet, or the two cats walking all over it, but it will be soon when it has buildings and things. So I really must work out some sort of a cover which is a good idea anyway to keep dust off but am thinking that it will have to bee angled so as to make it impossible to put things on it!
