Something for nothing!

blog-0523530001380151693.jpgHow often have you ever found a solution to a very real, sometimes costly but usually time consuming and uncomfortable problem and for no money! Well I did just that yesterday. My particular problem - dropping (and often loosing). bits on the floor. The solution - a clear out at my daughters school! In the skip were quite a number of strong plastic trays that I just couldn't resist. I was initially thinking seedlings for the garden or an extra cat poo tray when we go away (Yuk!), but one (and possibly more), has now found a home on my toy desk. By placing all the bits I am working on in the tray and only filing, drilling, gluing etc over it any dropped bits just stay in the tray. Simple but effective. My only concern is that I am putting all my eggs in one basket and if the tray should get knocked off there will be utter carnage!

Those of you not fortunate enough to have a son or daughter at a school having a clear out could always try using the cats litter tray (emptied!), or preferably go out and buy a new one!

The very observant amongst you might have noticed the contents of the tray which is the start of an attack at the on the new Hunslet chassis but more of this when I have some real progress.

Crikey! If I were baking at midnight (after a glass of wine!), I dread to think what would end up in the bread!

I remember those trays from when I was at primary school (early 1980s). There was one for each child, with their name usually written on a piece of paper or card and stuck on the end. There would be a rack of 30 (approx.) usually 3 columns and 10 rows in a wooden cabinet.

Yes, those are the ones! Now you really have got me thinking - if I could get one of the cabinets I could have one tray for each project (30 should be just enough!), each nicely labeled....... Have I got room for this? No, but that hasn't stopped me before!

Thanks for the suggestion Dennis but can I just check if you have a spare room to put me up for a few nights after the wife has thrown me out!

Alas, I have no daughter nor access to school skips so had to make do with some seed trays from Homebase.  These have some small holes in the bottom so care will need to be taken with pesky small components.

A piece of card or something similar in the bottom might be a good idea then as it is always the small bits that cause the problems.
