N gauge and O gauge weathering

One of my colleagues bought a new Farish N Gauge 5MT at Warley Show for use on Headingley. I was asked to give it a wash over to get rid of the plastic sheen ..

 

an ink/water wash followed by a small amount of weathering powder and ..

Then Dave who was demonstrating next door to me asked me to give an O Gauge Parkside GW loco coal wagon a bit of a weather - complete with rust..

and the other side.. again using ink/water wash plus some rust powder and coal dust powder..

As an N gauger the Std 5 looks brilliant put my attempts to weather locomotives to shame, I may have to try your ink method

if you need any help PM me.

 

The gentleman who owns (and provided the photograph Ian Morris) uses dry brushing and wanted to see how my weathering compared to his - they seem to work OK in this scale - I will stick to the ink method if I am working on clients locos and stock.

As someone who models in 2mm and 7mm it is good if the techniques are similar.

DonW - yes I used the same just a smaller amount of weathering powder and a much smaller brush to dribble some dirt along teh top of the boiler on the N gauge compared to the O gauge wagon
