Some progress on the silhouettes for lasercutting.. these are rough drafts as .bmp files, which I am going to need to trace (either manually or using Corel Trace, depending on what works best!) to make a vector Corel Draw image, to feed the laser cutting device..

There will be a main element made from slightly thicker plastic, and then a finer layer of approximated 'detail', all of which is still a work in progress!

In the meantime, some images which have inspired the project, taken recently:

Hi Will

Would it not be better to etch this?

Cheers

Hi Jim,

you may be right, at least for the 'detail' outer layer. I will probably stick with laser cutting for the four thicker, plastic structural 'chunks', and experiment with the best way to make the overlays that give the bridge its character.

It will be interesting finding out!

Hello Will :)

This looks very interesting. If the laser cutter is anything like the one I use then a black line is a full cut line and a red one a half cut or 'etch' line. There is no need to make it out of etched metal as the laser cutter should do it fine. What material are you planning on getting it cut from? The bridge I did I got cut from plywood and super glued it together and it made a very strong bridge. I am looking forward to seeing the progress.

I'm really curious to see how your laser cutting works out Will. It may be the way forward for some of the bridge components for my project!
