blog-0810060001394414095.jpgHaving 'skipped' a few days I am now almost there on this over running project. Big family do and some proper work has resulted in a very over extended me and little physical progress. But.... maybe a bit of a psychological break through! After importing my Sister and family from Brighton for week end the least I could do was give a full demonstration of my magnum opus. Yes, rather a grand term for something with now just six months to go does not really add up to much. So, resolution is to stop farting around with skips (there will be plenty of time for that later!), and get this layout presentable and then worry about the detail! There has actually been a little bit going on on the presentation front that I have been withholding (and will continue to do so for more impact!), but really must get the presentation sorted out. I have been working on a few ideas with some rather unusual materials and should be able to present these soon. Have a couple of quiet weeks ahead to have to make the most of them.

Anyway, three of the skips are practically finished and the others are not far behind;

Not the chain couplings between the skips and the standard chopper at the end as I intend to run this as a fixed rake.

Just to really scare you (and myself!), here is the stack of wagons and locos that I still have to build;

And these are only the ones I could find easily!

Since retiring, I have a strict rule "Never work to a deadline"

On the other hand, it is a great way of ensuring that you actually do get on with things :)

Firstly, I am forcing my self to finish these wagons because I am afraid the puns are only going to get worse the more I have to write about them!

Secondly, if I followed your rule, Mike, I would have a layout to commemorate 100 years since the Armistice - or maybe the Versailles treaty to give myself another year!

That pile of locos looks very daunting. Perhaps you should consider not trying to build them all before your layout's first exhibition. As long as you have enough locos to run things happily, to show some variety and get over what you're trying to show with the layout, and to provide a spare or two if something goes awry, you can look on the stash that remains as things to build when you have time.

Ah! A voice of reason! I have worked out that to run the layout I will need two seam locos and four petrol tractors, but then, yes, spares! Probably another two steamers and two tractors. The pile of boxes is possibly not quite as bad as it looks as one does contain a pretty much finished Baldwin that just needs some work on the valve gear and another with a chassis finished and just the body to do but still means I need to get a significant move on!.
