More of the boring stuff
My resolve is still (pretty), strong and have plodded on with the rather boring but nonetheless, essential infrastructure tasks. Today it was a means of clamping the boards together a bit more firmly than the clasp clips allow. Those rather smart looking lightening holes in the ends are now really coming into their own. The outside ones are for the multitude of wires and the middle one for clamping. Here is the simple but effective solution - you will have to imagine the other end board;
This has sorted out the rather large gaps between some of the boards which I was rather worried about and hopefully the second of today's projects will sort out the other. A prerequisite of all this work was a trip to Screwfix for what turned out to be £30s worth of nuts, bolts and washers. It still seems to be cheaper to buy 50 bolts from Screwfix than 10 from B+Q so I now have an awful lot of 10mm nuts and bolts spare if anyone is interested. The over ordering was partly intentional as I also need lots of bolts for the travel arrangements for the boards that I will start on shortly.
My friendly local metal merchants come up with some suitable aluminium channel and after loads of sawing, drilling and milling I had these which with the aid of the baseboard levelers I already had turned into these which will work like this in rather exaggerated style. Full testing of the concept will have to wait until tomorrow though.
