Remarkable Baldwin Progress
With nothing better to do the other night I decided that I really ought to make some more progress on the steam engines so opened up the box of a Wrightlines Baldwin 4-6-0 that I started a couple of years ago and then shelved. I was pleasantly surprised at how much progress I had made.
I had detailed the backhead, fitted pickups to all wheels including the pony truck that I had fitted with a neat swinging and swiveling contraption. Then the reason I had shelved it appeared in the form of a problem with the valve gear but with a fresh look was easily sorted. The plain finish on these loco's was a real boon again as a few swift attacks with Halfords primer and then matt black had the paint sorted. After my adventure with the decoder on the Simplex I loosely fitted the decoder this time with no attempt to conceal it and you know what? It all worked first time! So I now have a sound fitted Baldwin to add to the loco roster. OK, it needs some detail adding, the decoder and speaker fitting properly, some number and makers plates and a good weathering, Oh and I guess I need to get that pony truck to stay on the track through the points but all in all a pleasing result.
