Remarkable Baldwin Progress

KH1

blog-0015900001399068913.jpgWith nothing better to do the other night I decided that I really ought to make some more progress on the steam engines so opened up the box of a Wrightlines Baldwin 4-6-0 that I started a couple of years ago and then shelved. I was pleasantly surprised at how much progress I had made.

I had detailed the backhead, fitted pickups to all wheels including the pony truck that I had fitted with a neat swinging and swiveling contraption. Then the reason I had shelved it appeared in the form of a problem with the valve gear but with a fresh look was easily sorted. The plain finish on these loco's was a real boon again as a few swift attacks with Halfords primer and then matt black had the paint sorted. After my adventure with the decoder on the Simplex I loosely fitted the decoder this time with no attempt to conceal it and you know what? It all worked first time! So I now have a sound fitted Baldwin to add to the loco roster. OK, it needs some detail adding, the decoder and speaker fitting properly, some number and makers plates and a good weathering, Oh and I guess I need to get that pony truck to stay on the track through the points but all in all a pleasing result.

Looking very nice. As you say, a little weathering and it'll be fantastic.

Been at Apedale today... There is progress on lots of items there too 8-)

It's strange how a problem that was put aside some time ago seems easy to solve when looked at afresh! Happens to me loads of times.

That wiring looks like a rather 'arty' attempt to show a 'hit' on the locomotive, with hot shrapnel flying around!  Perhaps you should leave it as it is  :)

Just got back from a couple of days away in Wales at a place that promised WiFi but as is so often the case failed to work hence delay in replying to comments.  Most of the wires are tucked away now, all the unused ones being chopped and sealed with a blob of epoxy although keeping them as an arty statement does appeal - I might even get a lottery grant!

Personally I think it must be fairies that sort out problems while projects are shelved - and gremlins that cause the problems in the first place!

Will be good to catch up with what is happening at Apedale - I would look at the website but that  big doomsday clock to the the trenches event scares me too much!

Looking excellent, as ever. Truly capturing the spirit of the whole time period.

Also, don't you just love Wi-won't-you-work-Fi?!
