What a difference a backscene makes.

blog-0974182001405211889.jpgA quick trip to the slightly smaller than usual Telford show started the weekend off, unfortunately accompanied by an unusually moany little girl which did make it a pretty quick trip. Good thing though was that I didn't get the chance to spend much money! As it wasn't raining when I got back another start was made on fitting the backscene and wow, does it make a difference! It is not perfect yet as I shall explain but heaps better.

I have recycled the 2x1 from my mark1 legs which has been very handy and found more uses for the bumper pack of M10 bolts from Screwfix. Down side though is that I have found that the horizon is just too high so have turned the bottom back on itself and thus just isn't hanging properly hence the creases. Unfortunately this now means that it is not really quite high enough so might have to redesign it and get it printed again. Not really surprised by this as had a feeling that this might be a Mark1 only. This would give the opportunity to get rid of a couple of things such as the piles of rubble behind the buildings that just don't work.

Anyway, see what you think;

If I may be so bold from my armchair...

That really seems to finish it off: the sky sets the mood and the dark woods behind the buildings add depth.

The only thing that doesn't sit quite right in my mind is the join between 2d & 3d vegetation in the first two pictures where the foreground field in the back scene seems too desaturated compared to the bright grass that you've modelled.

Sorry to miss you at Telford-I managed to get there for the last hour: as you say, smaller than previous years but worth it just to see Crowsnest Wharf.

Starting to look really good with the backscene, one tip however. Have you engaged the help and advice of the domestic overlord re hanging of curtains and such things as they are suprisingly really good at this kind of work and can offer lots of experience, far better than us mere mortals and may be able to give some technical advice towards the hanging of the backscene. If not then gawd help you as I have probably just dropped you along with myself right in it.

Goodbye-ee, goodbye-ee,
Wipe the tear, baby dear, from your eye-ee,
Tho' it's hard to part I know,
I'll be tickled to death to go.
Don't cry-ee, dont sigh-ee,
there's a silver lining in the sky-ee,
Bonsoir, old thing, cheer-i-o, chin, chin,
Nah-poo, toodle-oo, Goodbye-ee.

I think your arm chair is a perfectly acceptable vantage point and in some ways better than mine which is far to close to  the action so to speak! I agree with the comment about the transition between the foreground and back ground - lowering the skyline further will help but also I intend to tone down the grass and everything really with a mammoth airbrushing session when everything is in place.

Unfortunately, I don't think curtain hanging is a skill possessed by anyone in this household but the musical interlude has got you out of trouble!

If it manages to stay dry I might well have a fascia board and lighting setup sorted by the end of today.

Just gets better and better, though my eyes see a man cuddling a monkey whilst listening to a gramophone in the 3rd picture :D

I'm sorry, I've not seen any reference to air guitars in any book about field railways or the front. It'll have to go else all credibilty...  ;-)

Saw a moving doc about bagpipes and pipers girding troops for the battle last week tho.
