PO's I've Painted - Long Ago.

blog-0617303001442240083.jpgI have recently - Sept 2015 - posted odd pictures on various threads, of PO's I've hand painted in the past.

It seems about time I posted them as a group.

Of course since I started painting these in the late 1960's, but mostly in the late 70's, most of these liveries are now available in RTR variations or on POWsides extensive lists..... There are one or two they they haven't done, yet :nono:

They are not all here, there's around 60 wagons up and running, but some are away on long term loan on friends layouts...

The earliest wagon I scratch built and lettered around 1967, is in plastikard - 'Henry Workman', based on a drawing in a 1960 Model Railway News.

The Llewellyn wagon next to it is based one on a glass neg I have of the lime kilns at Kington.

've painted it Green, but I'm told, some 40 years later, that it was probably Grey.

Of course the complex Gellycidrim is now RTR....

Pit props galore - remains of trimmings from a 100' long privet hedge I had to cut back in the 70's..

Amman Iron Co., built in 1967 too. Croall & Co., based on a Corrall's livery.

My Mother, Mrs Croall, worked in Corrall's Offices.. Radnorshire wagon because I was going to do Knighton in Radnorshire.

I don't think they've done Caergyndd yet.

This was from a photo of wagons at Dunvant, the photo was in the Railway Inn at Killay, again back in the '70's.

The one on the left, which can hardly be read close up, is 'Breconshire Farmers Association', That was difficult to cram in.

'Malvern Gas department', yes there was one owned by the District Council and I spoke with one of their former employees who gave me the information, that was back in 1975, 40 years ago.

Oh, and there's Penlan Colliery and Berthllwydd Colliery wagons too, about 6 of each Colliery I've lettered and another 5 of each as RTR....

Somehow, they look more convincing than the transfers/RTR, and you've had the pleasure of them for 30 odd years. Hope you're not going to replace them with new vehicles?

I do like the pit props by the way, must get round to constructing some for the layout.

The pit props, as stated >>> privet hedge arisings.
I amassed a great pile of cuttings each time I cut the 100' long hedge (that's 200' doing both sides, it bordered a footpath), these were basically the left over ones on top of the hedge...  cleared of off shoots and stored in a dry shed for months on end... then trimmed to length.
I didn't use any stabiliser, but it might stop the bark coming adrift, but these have been there nearly 40 years, so not a big problem.

Oh, and no it's not my intention to replace them with RTR's etc.,
Some of these hold memories, like feeding my youngest lad at 2am, and then getting on finishing off another paint job...

Lovely collection of wagons.  One of the postmen at Much Wenlock had been a guard on the railway there and could remember seeing wagons at Presthope labelled ED and Round Oak Works smaller underneath. Limestone headed for the Steel works

Fantastic collection of wagons there. It's the private owner wagon that tempted me into standard gauge modelling from narrow gauge, though I've yet to try my hand at hand lettering yet.

Good to see another using privet, on our group's previous 7mm narrow gauge layout we had a timber yard and saw mill and used privet for the logs on that too.

Cheers,

Andrew

Just love PO Liveries your work is amazing. Fantastic collection of wagons that bring so much to your excellent model that is PENLAN. I model the L&Y Circa 1910-1913 so lots of PO Liveries to choose from.

Thanks for sharing your post and in doing so continuing to encourage all our efforts in this great hobby of ours.
