Wilderspool Causeway - the start

The top lines are the passenger, this will be at a higher level, the track plan is similar to Shaw, it will be a single arriving and double departing (from left to right) with a reversing siding available for turn backs.

The bottom lines are the truncated remains of a once through line, freights will arrive from the left and the loco will run off and "run round" them, they then depart, this means that a freight will need to be only a few wagons long.

The juxaposition will be arranged during designing and the p&c may change, it will not be two parallel "areas" as drawn, there will probably be a closed up tunnel where the low level lines once continued and the passenger line will be on a gentle curve - but more of that as it progresses

The top level is now based on a Notts area station , the reversing siding now comes off the single bit, and the low level goods is a truncated double junction, one or more of the lines will be out of use, yet to decide which and as previously, juxtaposition will be sorted once the final track plan is decided upon.

------------

the top level is under "deep thought" about some variations, the siding will have a sand drag, we are thinking of limiting the fiddle yard so 158s will terminate but 142s can continue, therefore making any 158 service a forced turn back, and there is the possibility of the odd tamper / short freight, some possibilities for lighting, of a variety of types.

The low level will certainly be decayed, at least one of the lines will be out of use with the S&C partially dismantled, plenty of derelict stuff, not truly the "modern" railway but would allow RichardS' grids to put in a turn, the proposed signal box (closed) will be interesting but you will have to wait for that, thinking of making the ground frame (which has replaced the box) actually have moving levers but this will depend on what is needed.

The ideas are being templotted, so a more definite plan will start taking shape soon - then decision time, 00, EM or P4

---------------

Black lines are the nominal passenger only (high level) and blue the freight only - some of the lines will be out of use but still considering which ones. The passenger station will be to the right and will be "bitsa" - ie only enough platform for a vehicle or so, not sure how to hide the fiddle area there yet, probably a view blocker rather than a tunnel arrangement.

For a variety of reasons this has not progressed however after some successful baseboard construction yesterday which makes this part (the bit I hate most) a lot easier (see here) my interest has been rekindled but possibly in a smaller scale (literally ! - N gauge) - don't hold any breath just yet though :(
