I have ran out of parts to work on the layout, so it's time to get on with some more loco work. Foolishly I have strayed from my usual approach of only buying Shirtbutton locos to rebrand to 1940s liveries, and bought a handful of Great xx Western locos.
The first two are recent Hornby releases, the King and 72xx. In both cases the microsol took longer than usual to shift, and has left a fair bit of ghosting of the old logo (much worse in the case of the 72xx.). Of course this is compounded by the small new logo. To aid the process on the King I left the crest in place and will just add the G and W. With the tender done, the slow process of removing the footplate started.
The hall was even more difficult, the loco (complete with Comet chassis) came from Geof's estate via eBay. I think it has been worked on slightly more (possibly revarnished) given the strange marks left around the logo (which was a better colour than the usual printing.). Again the crest was left in place. This time I started removing the footplate lining with a flat blade screwdriver, before repainting the black.
The final job was to remove the BR crest and number from my WD 280, (having already carved off the smokebox plate. Fortunately this shifted incredibly easily, although again left a mark visible on the tender In a certain light
In all 4 cases I think a coat of satin varnish should blend it all in nicely
And here's one prepared earlier, Bachmann Dukedog fitted with Coast Line models plates as 9018
