Comet H26 part 2

The Fatadder

Tonight saw the basics of the chassis formed, everything went together well but the solebar looks very deep compared to photos.

This is made worse by an error I've made on the body, after not reading the instructions properly I've soldered the base plate flush with the bottom of the ends ?and used a shed load of solder). As such the chassis sits below the body and the solebars are even deeper still.

I'm going to have to hold the bogies tomorrow and see how it looks coupled to a Hawksworth and a sunshine third. First thoughts for fixing is to chop out the floor mounting brackets and add a new floor fixing point to the ends in the right place. unsodering is not an option as with me doing it would result in a write off)

To say I'm annoyed is an understatement

One solution;..snap off, file off the part that secures to the chassis. Get new ends from Comet solder in place and file back the chassis floor to allow for the extra thickness of the end - only the floor and not the coach solebars. There should be a 1 mm difference from the bottom of the coach side to the start of the securing tab - so 1mm up from the bottom of the coach end. You don't need to go bonkers with the solder if you tin both surfaces first and then add plenty of flux and plenty of heat to quickly mate the 2 parts. Put some hair grips near the coach ends on the sides to act as a heat sink.

So I would carefully cut the joint between bracket and sides then snap the joint between the bracket and end?

Sounds workable, once I've finished the chassis and bogies I will have a go.
