Can't believe I'm doing this...but due to some rumours surrounding the Hornby 2010 announcements, I have decided to wait to start cutting up my spare V3 bodyshell until after the Hornby announcements on Christmas day.

In all honesty, if what has been hinted it being announced I can think of at least two people, myself included, who'll be happy to the extent its being made, but absolutely furious that for the second year running, I start a project and Hornby announce that they are making it (anyone remember the Clan from a Brit comp?)

So until next time - and the Hornby announcement - the Thompson L1 build is currently on hiatus.

Yes Simon I do remember the Clan competition ;) However we did announce and start it and finish it long before the Hornby announcement that they were going to do it - You'll remember also all the folk that said we were waisting our time on such an unsuccessful class, and why would Hornby even dream of producing it - blah blah blah...........

Keep up your conversions Simon and don't wait for the outcomes of the annual rumour mill.

Hi Bob,

I know what you're saying chap, and normally I would just carry on as normal. However the V3 into an L1 conversion requires bashing an N class chassis, taking apart a Bachmann V3 and generally a few other bits and bobs that could be used to simply ressurect the defunct V3 model or overhaul the N class model.

It's one of those times where I have to hold my hands up and say I could quite happily wait and buy an L1 if it appears, and on this occasion feel I'd rather have the V3 still for perhaps a shed scene or similar.

The conditions of the project have sadly changed, I was looking foward to making one but - as with my J17 bash - if it can be made RTR it'll look better than my own efforts.

I am looking at another possibility for a new kitbash to replace the L1 project if an RTR one is announced, however.

an L1 did visit Annesley shed and is reported as doing a few colliery trips....

One might find it's way onto Summat Colliery blink.gif

Why don't we have a Duke of Gloucester comp this year, that'll get Hornby thinking laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Thats a neat idea - "Duke from a Brit" anyone? :D

I'd enter - get a cheap loco drive model off Hattons and build the GA kit :)

Guaranteed announcement from Hornby 2010!!!

Too late, I already have a cut up V1 body which I had planned to fit to the Ivatt 2mt chassis. However I lost all enthusiasm for the job months ago and was relying on the entries on this site to get me going again. I always said I would never start a new kit or conversion in the run up to Christmas just in case Hornby introduced a RTR version. I have been slowly collecting components for a K1 conversion similar to those described on this site until about a month ago when I suddenly decided to start work on an O1. The chassis is a very old Hornby Dublo, pre ringfield 2-8-0 fitted with romford wheels. It has previously seen service under a GWR 2800 which was replaced when the Hornby version came along. Cylinders & valve gear are Hornby B17 and the body is Bachmann B1. This conversion suffers from the same difficulty as the K1 in that the B1 boiler centerline is too close to the running plate to be accurate for either conversion but by lowering the running plate/ boiler assembly and raising the cab a reasonable compromise can be achieved. The drop at the front of the running plate has to be reduced and the frame extensions modified. It is currently in the paint shop and waiting a tender. Does anybody know where I can get an O1 chimney?

Thanks

Roger.

That sounds like an interesting conversion Roger - any pics? That does sound like one I'd have a go at making :) PDK may sell an 01 chimney separate from their kit?

Pictures will follow when;

1. the model is presentable and

2. I have found out how to attach pictures.

Picture attached. NB: I know the tender is wrong but it is all I have at the moment. Proper GCR tender will follow in due course.
