Network Rail NVA ex-Motorail GUV

I'd been looking to create a full protoypical rake for my test trains and was completely unable to find anything that I could really work with to do this ex-Motorail car. So, I thought I'd have a go and making from scratch....

I am really pleased with the result. The body and chassis are both 2 parts and are printed separately and glued together. It is designed to take Replica Railways B5 bogies.

The prints come out very nicely:

A quick mock up of the parts before glueing:

very happy!

A little bit of clean up to ensure the join line is square and the body is glued together, surface finished and primed:

The chassis was glued and primed and painted. I will glue the chassis and body together but it could be drilled and bolted or double sided tape….just paint before assembly…

I used Vallejo Model Air and the finish came out great!

the chassis detail comes out nicely and the Replica Railways B5 bogies go in to the pivot mount holes with only minor cleaning out to get the pivot action nice an smooth.

Some transfers from Railtec and we have a nice model:

A really straightforward build - all the hard work done at the design and print set up stage!

New single piece prints. Very pleased with these:

These look great! Just about finished my two piece one. A 2 piece one would be far easier though! When will these be on eBay ?

I should have some available in a couple of weeks time. Just bedding in the printer to make the print reliable!

Had a go at a TT scale version too. They came out nicely! Just need to work out what to do for bogies. Maybe it’s time to draw my own B5….

how much post print sanding etc has been done to the body in the previous photo?  it looks like an impressively smooth finish.  Would be interested to know what hardware / material you are using to print with.

Really impressed with the photos of the NVA build, will be very interested in buying one in a couple of months time once the layout build is finished.  I want to model it in the original blue / cream livery to go with my GWT loco hauled set.

For the most part I don’t need to do any finishing now that they are one piece bodies that I print. Occasionally I will get a line in the body that needs to be sanded/filled but that I think is resin temperature related in the cold weather. If that happens then I would tend to fix that before I post cure, or, I throw it away and print another! The red TT version has had no work done at all. The yellow one didn’t have any sanding and is primed and then painted with a Halfords rattle can.

I just use a standard resin, nothing fancy. I do them in the cheapest colour I can find at the time. Usually I use Elegoo or Anycubic brand.

I have an Elegoo Jupiter printer that I use for these as I can print them in a single piece due to the large dimensions.

Just PM me when you’d like one!

I have decided to clear out my development models for space. If anyone is interested in some of them please PM me (I am not giving them away but before I put them on eBay I thought I'd give followers the chance) - I have 10 in total, all painted of which 8 are in full livery. They will all need bogies and buffers to complete and I can add in bushings for certain bogies if you know what you want to use.
