The painting and lining seems to have gone fairly smoothly with this one. I used the same double transfer technique developed for the Grampian Corridor stock which helps. Certainly not as sharp as an expert painter could achieve, but I know my limitations.

 

I have painted the interior in a simple fashion and added a guard and some parcels, mail bags and a tandem. Very little of that can be seen , but it gives the impression of use.

 

Anyway, a couple of posed pictures.

Very nice. The magnetic (?) join at the corners seems to work well.

 

Sorry to be a nark again but shouldn't the full brake be at the rear of the NCPS train?

Probably should be at the end, but then folk would have to watch to the end of the video...

That's a handsome van.  And I would have watched the video to the end anyway, wherever it was placed in the train.

 

[Question - what do you use to make the video:  I've not had much success with the mobile phone, it's focus wanders as the train moves and, sometimes, it has a slightly "hand cranked" camera effect?]

I have a Nikon D3400 which tbh I wish I hadn't bought. I have a lot of difficulty focussing it and annoyingly it doesn't support tether mode so I can't connect it to a big enough screen to see what I'm doing. So for video I use manual mode and try to lock the focus, which it promptly ignores and tries to focus on the background. Same as your phone. I then use iMovie to edit, again I'm not an expert but it does correct the hand cranked look and I can chop out all the video of floors, hands and so on. 

 

Honestly, there are lots of folk on rmweb who take far better pics and videos than me. I sometimes read about the gear the pros use and look at prices. Then I go and lie down in a dark corner till the shock wears off.....

Dave, thanks for the information - I have an ancient, small digital video camera with lost battery charger (on loan to daughter for past 10 years).  I might source a new charger and give it a try.  For work reasons, I have a full version of Photoshop which seems to manage video editing and compiling pretty well  (which is to say that I can vaguely understand it).

I went back and read about your transfer solution again. Having since tried various other lining options with limited success, I think I will give your technique a go on one of my new GWR clerestories to see if it works for me. Thanks once again for inspiration.

 

The video is very nice. Am I correct that there is no sound?

I have tried sound Mikkel but with the camera sitting on the baseboard to take video it just comes out as annoying noise.

Very nice looking over all result. My only attempts with a lining pen were on my two SM32 live steam locos. They are much bigger of course and more forgiving than a 4mm model and I kept it very simple. The results were not professional to my eye but look ok. These things take some mastering for sure and I'm from a fine art background!
