OK, Im getting bored now...

Hello :)

As the title says, I am getting a bit bored of these electrics! The whole thing of wiring the layout up seems to be endless at the moment. I am not the fastest of people by a long way but this is just going on forever and ever!

Apart from a couple of fuses and cables I think there is now no real reason why I cant get the thing working, the 2 boards should now work. There are still things like uncoupling magnets and signals to fit and wire but I guess the bulk of it is done now. I have found out though that I might have to re-do the point mechanisms as some of them dont seem to be working right now.

Hmmmmm.

Don't despair Missy - its all looking fantastic from those phots.

I would put off the signals and uncoupling mechanisms and finish the basics to allow some time to be able to run some trains and enjoy it.

The items above could be added a bit later with I'm sure only minor mods to the scenics and when you feel ready to take them on.

Hang on in there...

Neat wiring takes time, but once done you WILL be proud of it!

Having helped wire up a club project, I know how dull it it to wire up a layout!

Hi Missy, don't give up, we'll all loose out if you do! (how's that for peer pressure! smile.gif).

Seriously though, Baraneatpete's suggestion makes a lot of sense, although I know how de-motivating it can be when there are problems with the points icon_mutter.gif.

There is no quick way with electrics if you rush you make mistakes or bad connections. Two days ago temporary wired up the Lens command unit for some testing. Yesterday trying the mobile unit the system wouldn't work. Found one of the LAMB wires to the fascia plug in unit had come adrift. That's doing it in a hurry.

How are the points driven. If you are using DCC for the points an additional manual switch can help with testing.

With wiring that neat you should have no problems sorting it out.

However I notice in the picture the open powerflux pot. Are you using that to make connections to the copper strip. It is difficult to clean it off under the baseboards and will start going green. Generally I rely on the resin core in the flux for electrical connections.

As others have said, that's some very neat wiring. Any chance of some more details on how you are operating the turnouts? I think I can spot MERG Servo4 units and servos attached to something by rods, but that something at the turnout end isn't too clear.

Hello Nick :)

There is more information on page 7 of my old blog now it is back up and running.

I have a few more things to post on this blog but I am waiting for the ability to post pictures once again.

Hope that helps.

Missy :)
