Moving North

Not much has changed on Knucklesford, some more track has gone down, mainly the goods spur, that's still in progress... I've worked out a pretty good method of soldering drop wires for power feeds.

  • Put the soldering iron on full.
  • Liberally tin the drop wire
  • Use minimal solder on the track bottom
  • Put the soldering iron to the drop wire and touch both of them onto the track to fix

Speed and accuracy is of the essence here to stop the sleepers from melting.

As for the Oxted and Westerham, it may need to move north... Not only is there a distinct lack of modern (as in era 9) rolling stock for the south, the trackplan as it is evolving doesn't really suit the downs.... Bachmann/Dapol hello? Can we have at least a Southern Class 171??? A class 375/377? Sorry if I've missed a specialist supplier, but I like it ready to run...

Speaking of RTR, as I'm tidying the house, I've spotted so much rolling stock, some of which hasn't really moved very lately (or at all). So I've got planned a race/test track. Three gauges, all done in set-track: 9mm for N (British) and HOe (Austrian), 12mm (I found some BEMO set-track in a box, I had forgotten I even had it, but it's for my Swiss Rhb stock) and finally 16.5mm for my HO stock (mainly Dutch).

As long as I don't run more than one gauge at a time, I can get the three loops onto a table measuring no more than 115cm by 80cm. This can be my project for this weekend!
