My first etching

Hello :)

A while ago while at a show I spoke to a guy called Stephen Harris about the fact I really wanted to have a go at doing some etching. Stephen kindly let me use a small area from one of his test etches and with some help from him I managed to draw some bits to try out...

A small envelope turned up today and I was really pleased to see my etches have arrived. There is my station sign, three ground signal disks, and enough sides for two GWR benches which have all been repeated. I know as far as etching goes they arent anything special but for me its quite a milestone. Next are fold lines...

Thank you Stephen.

Missy :)

Well done, I've thought of trying to etch bits particularly instanters, but didn't know where to start (bought Exactoscale one's last weekend, much better than anything I could make) so I'm delighted to see that you've found a way to make those very intricate parts. Stephen Harris is a superb modeller, I greatly admire his loco mechanisms for their super smooth running.

Can't wait to see the results of your etches.

Very nice! The detail on those seat ends is fantasticcool.gif

Bob Jones (of Fence Houses fame) produced some guidance notes on designing etches a while ago. I'll dig them out if they'd be of any use (assuming you haven't already got them)?

Those ground signal discs and seat ends look very useful.

The station name board has come out really well, thinking about it, it does seem the best way to make them in this scale.

What do you plan to use on the benches for the woodwork?

Hello :)

Thank you guys. I am pleased with them, especially for a first attempt!

Andy. Thank you for the notes, I will read through them soon.

Bryn. The plan was to use etch offcuts for the woodwork. It would be nice to use real wood but I think even the thin ply would be too thick.
