Tree!

Me Again :)

While I try to remember how I actually finished off the ballast on the first baseboard I have made a start finishing a couple of things that have been sitting on my table half finished. Today I have been playing around with the half finished tree to see if I could end up with something I was happy with.

I didnt really use the normal methods but ended up using a mixture of things until I was happy. The basic tree is a normal twisted wire one but then after that there is all sorts on it! It was intending to be an oak tree but I dont think it has come out exactly how I imagined it.

Beautiful tree, not quite an oak though, without the top 1/3rd maybe ? most of the timber yards I use struggle to get oak in lengths of more than 10-12' When I asked why apparantly its hard to get an oak tree to grow straight for more than that length ?! Even the Great Oak in Nottingham is quite a wide squat tree from memory it long lower branches how propped up.

In fact just found an image on google

All that said its still a cracker of a tree you have !

Nice! Something about the shape of the branches and the clouds together suggest a warm breezy day B)

Oak braches twist and fork a lot. That looks far more like an Ash to me they can get pretty tall. Very nice

Hello smile.gif

When I made a start on the tree it was supposed to be an Oak but somehow the idea got lost when I was twisting the wire so it ended up a bit more generic than I really wanted it to. I was concentrating a bit too much on making sure the thing was big, something that you dont often see on layouts.

For a first attempt I am reasonably happy with it although looking at it there are still some tweaks I can do which will hopefully help. Im sure they will get better the more I do but I think this one will find its way onto the layout.

Fantastic.

I know next to nothing about trees, but the extra work to put in the smaller branches really has paid off. It just has a very "fine" feel about it, top marks or this one smile.gif
