New stock for Avonwick

Kris

With the 2mm expo getting very close I'm sure I should be panicking, but other things just seem to keep getting in the way. Modelling time has been exceptionally restricted for the past 9 months so very little has been done, however over the past couple of weeks I have found a little time to start building a little more stock for the layout. It's not finished but I'm hoping that another week will see it painted, then I might get a chance to build a 2nd Toplight.

1st up is a Toplight - This was a lovely kit to build and went together well expect for a couple of slots etched in the wrong place, nothing I could not easily work around though.

2nd up is an Ultima models Giant - an older model that has gone together with reasonable ease. The detail is not as good as the toplight but is more than acceptable. I shall be replacing the provided bogies with 2mm soc kits as I think these are much better (but much harder to build).

And both together.

Kris - Good to see you posting again - will be good to see these at the Expo...even if you don't manage to get the paint done.

PS - Your Farmer Giles must have plenty of new stories to share with us

I think farmer Giles has become a little bored, Daisy was last seen standing on a Macaw C whilst Giles was looking rather confused on the platform. I think that they will both be making the trip to Oxford to see the sights and broaden their horizons. biggrin.gif

Hello Kris smile.gif

As Bryn said its nice to see you posting again. Who makes the toplight kit? because it does look really good. Is it one of Chris Higgs mavellous little kits?

Thanks

Hello Missy.

It is indeed one of Chris's kits, I have a few more in the goody box waiting to be built.

Is the "Giant" for the Kingsbridge-Birmingham rabbit van? I am struggling to identify what the prototype was made out of and its a signature piece of rolling stock. I loved your Gloucester DMU. Where did it come from? I look at 15000 whenever I'm at Buckfast. DVR also have a Collet 0-6-0t finished now which is beautiful.

The Giant is more a piece of rolling stock for a future layout, but could be the rabbit van (I suspect this would have been a different type of van though). The DMU is a Bachmann 108 with the wheels turned down to 2mm standards. The Collet does look good doesn't it. I just happened to be passing on its first official day of haulage so had to call in and see it.
