Some pictures of the detailed Hornby 73 - now with lots of bits of wire and plastic attached to the bogies to represent the various cables etc. The 73/0 has vast numbers of cables on it's bogies, far more than the production loco.

The roof mounted horns are from A1 and are soldered to a mounting plate to hopefully make them a bit more robust.

It's taken a lot of work to get this far - the 73/0 looks superficially similar to the 73/1 but there are a huge number of detail differences which the Hornby model ignores.

The straight runs between the sandboxes are from Alan Gibson .33mm wire. The curvy wires are a mix of the Gibson .45mm wire and some anonymous brass wire of the same diameter I found in my scrapbox. I annealed it to make it easier to bend (by heating it up over the gas ring) and did the curves by bending around a screwdriver handle of about the right diameter.

It's going to be E6001 in blue/full yellow ends circa 1970 (it seems to have kept the original oval buffers until at least 1970 and probably later)

pete: Exceptional job on the detailing. May I inquire where you obtained the correct oval buffers from please? I have a detailing kit (from Craftsman I believe), and I purchased the A1 air horns (A7302) from MG Sharpe, but they couldn't supply suitable oval buffers for the original JA version. A pal in Australia - who I communicate with regularly - is also looking for the same buffer type. Any ideas on a source of supply?

Hi Pete

the 73/0 looks superficially similar to the 73/1 but there are a huge number of detail differences which the Hornby model ignores.

Are you able to elaborate on the detail differences? I am aware of the difference in bodyshells (extra windows etc)and in the provision of jumper cables on the cab fronts- are there any other major differences such as in bogie details or underframe equipement or are the others of a more minor nature? I have a Lima 73/0 to be upgraded and I like the look of what you have done to yours. Haven't chosen a loco yet(except to say it will be one of E6001-6!)nor colour scheme - my only proviso is that it must be in 1968/69 condition. Best get my books out and take a look at the shots within. Looking forward to seeing a fully painted shot of this fine model.
