Fisherton Sarum - post Manchester

Well its been over a week now since the Manchester Show. I have to say it was on the whole a great weekend and thanks must go to my able helpers for the weekend firstly my Mum and Dad and also Roger, Mark (GWMark) and his son Daniel from the High Wycombe and District MRS who gave up their weekend to help me operate the layout.

The new venue for the show seemed to be pretty good, certainly makes unloading and load easier and quicker than the old venue and is a nice well lit sports hall in which FS was centrally located next to Andy and the RMweb stand (not that I got to speak to Andy much over the weekend!) I know that the MMRS know that the catering at the venue needs a little tweaking for next year (as separate serving area for the exhibiitors would greatly assist) I am sure as a venue it will prove a good move for the Society in the future.

On the whole , after a shaky first hour on the Saturday morning when the layout seemed to behave like a bag of bolts, things seemed to go pretty well and was nice to chat to a few members of RMweb and also puting some faces to names of members of the Semg who came along to say hello. The inititial ruinning issues we sorted after a few board joints were adjusted follwing the hall obvisouly being pretty cool overnight but rapidly warming up in the morning (to pretty much too warm in the afternoons)

Follwong spending money at Langley models and International models some additional loco crew and foliage was added as the weekend progressed.

All in all a great weekend and thansk to the members of the MMRS for their welcome (latext gloves....don't ask....or work it out from the exhibition thread...no I really didn't have an allen key on my person) and hospitality.

Once again thanks to my operating crew, the next outing for FS is January 2011 at the Guildford show.

Yes there was one heart stopping moment when a young lad being held in his father arms leaned forward and had a go at rotating my turntable by hand which didnt do the conection between the deck and and its drive shaft much good!

Talking of heart-stopping moments Muz I dreaded turning round whenever I heard one of the empty cassettes at the end of the layout slide over!

Hi Graham

Glad you had a good show, it's always great when a plan comes together (even if it feels as it it won't). This was the show that was in my diary as being relatively close to me, but I had to cancel my trip, as I'm still housebound and can't actually get much further than the end of the road. I had hoped, having read about FS in the press and on here, to see it in the flesh, and to meet some fellow RM Webbers, but alas, it was not to be.... :sadclear: :(

It's odd how many people think that "do not touch" applies to everybody else, and not to them.

Hi,

That's nothing Andy, imagine lifting the Devon Belle set over the fiddle yard!
