Hello Nigel :)

This is where the phrase 'practice makes perfect' really is appropriate, its so true and trust me if you stick at it you will be lining the chassis up on your workbench.

As for the signals they have been written up (not by me I might add) and they should be appearing in the 2mm SA newsletter sometime soon.

Nigel, hi

Have only just found your blog from this and have read up on what I have missed - Good to have another 2FS layout on the forum.

Stay with the chassis etch - I only recently built my first one and I think its probably something that they get easier the more you make.

Pete i have build plastic models for many years . aircraft mainly , I feel I may just take the 2mm instructions and revamp them for others .as they are a little unclear in some areas.

perhaps add a series of step by step pictures A LA airfix

Hi Nigel,

There are a few 'knacks' to getting the chassis built, and the more you do, the easier they get.

Which chassis is it that you're building? Chances are that someone on here has built one and can help with any specific questions.

I've just remembered that there are a couple of photo guides for wagons in the members area on the 2mm website - have a look and see if they make things any easier.

Missy, did you get the ground signal to work ??

Hello Nigel :)

Im really glad my stuff has inspired you to have a go. Yes, the ground signals work, they are not that much different to make than the normal signals.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures of the 2nd wagon. I suspect the 1st is not a bad as you are making out. As you say they are rather small aren't they.

Its the 10 foot wheel base part no 2-333 and any jokes about it being half a beast to make are wrong on many levels lol

I do not have any real questions as I have been through most of this site ( its really helpful )

It is not a hard model to make its just the instructions could be a little clearer

they are 1 A4 page of closely typed writing with an exploded view

with a model of this ........... complexity i would have expected 2 or 3 pages with diagrams for each stage

Hello Nigel,

As a relative newcomer to the black art of 2FS, I have found that some of the 'instructions' to be a bit daunting at first :(; however, as has been said, they do get easier with practice. I just looked at the 2-333 instructions and yes they are quite complex to begin with - I started with 2-361 (9'0" w/b with GWR DC brake) which appears to be considerably simpler... ...though with less illustrations :).

There are many on RMweb who are involved with 2FS who can help / encourage when things get 'challenging' - I have found them all to be of great help in progressing my modelling, and retaining my sanity when it all goes completely wrong.

The best instructions I have seen are for Dragon Models 0 gauge wagons. Chris Basten takes a photo of each stage adds comments and uses them for instructions. Since you can see that parts being fixed in the photo there is less confusion particularly for the novice.

Something similar would be a great help to get the novice strarted.

having had chance to review the progress and realising part of the problem is my lack of tiny weeny drills lol i am now buying lots of odd tools ( that i used to have many years ago ) and the plan is to start fresh with a new chassis .. mark 1 will be placed in view to inspire me to better things .

I like Dons idea of photo's and will have a go at doing this

just spent a heart wrenching hour sorting out ant throwing away a box of part started . not finished aircraft kits

............... but have found all sorts of odd bits of etched brass lol
