High Level RSH 'Husky' - Gearbox and stoneguards.

The kit comes with a multi-stage 108:1 gearbox, designed specifically for this loco. Its etched in nickel-silver and is used with a Mashima 1220 motor. The gearbox is easy to fold up and assemble but cutting down the motor shaft caused problems, see here.

A pic of the gearbox;

And a couple of pics of it in the frames;

You can just make out the idler shaft and gear for the 'Illusodrive' jackshaft (the flycranks aren't physically connected to the con. rods but are driven off the gearbox).

The stoneguards were added today from code 40 rail, kindly supplied by a couple of RMwebbers who responded to a plea in the classified section (thanks again guys). The kit suggests using 1mm dia. rod but looking at photos of the prototype shows that light section f/b rail is used. A small detail perhaps but worth getting right. A pic;

They still need a bit of cleaning up but I'm rather pleased with them.

The next job will be sorting out the compensation.

Paul.

Paul not knowing the prototype well - I would be inclined to agree with you about those stone guards - if they were 'rail' in real life then a section of rod just wouldn't look right.

I'm going to have to stop reading your blogs as I really don't have time to start another kit - and even if I did I'm torn between another Sentinel (for the MSC P4 project) or something more random like an 0-16.5 W&LLR Earl/Countess...

Must resist... got a Grasmaster to buy next!!!

The rest of the loco is so well detailed that it would have been a shame to compromise on the stoneguards.

Stop resisting and buy some more brass! You know it makes sense.
