Hello :)

I had the pleasure of helping out on Stephen Harris' 2mm FS layout Ynysarwed Sidings yesterday at the NEC / Warley show. In my eyes its probably the best 2mm / N layout around when it comes to the quality of the engines and rolling stock. Its one of my insperational layouts and I always feel honoured when Stephen askes me to help run it at shows.

I always enjoy going to Warley, I love talking to people there, both traders and fellow members. This year was a bit special as the 2mm SA was celebrating its 50th anniversary so there was a special area set out for the association with some really good modelling. As always it was great to meet up with the other 2mm modellers once again.

It was a bit of a shame I didnt really get alot of time to see much else at the show though but I did manage to pick up one of those spray booths that people are recommending at the moment (cant wait to try it out!)

Finally, thanks to Nigel C I managed to get a picture of Elvis with his bigger brother (namely a gauge 1 model)

Fantastic shot!

Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself, it was quite a good show this year. I'll have to second your comments on Stephen's layout, a top all rounder in every sense.

Did you pick up any new projects/bits & bobs?

Hi Bryn :)

Thank you, I hope you had a good day on Saturday? Its a shame we missed each other again :(

As mentioned above my biggest spend was one of those spray booths, other than that I picked up a decoder, 2 pots of paint, some glue, and some scale net curtians! Not that much really but I never seem to buy much at shows.

Did you pick up anything nice?

I wasn't on form Saturday, I had just finished 2 months of night shifts and my head wasn't screwed on. Thanks have to go to Andy for sorting out my "shunting puzzles"

I was planning on popping in Sudnay to see you guys, but my body clock wasn't playing ball that morning.

I picked up some of those MIG weathering powders which everyone is raving about. I'm pretty pleased with the results, but I might of undone all my work with a dodgy coat of satin varnish dry.gif

All in all, an enjoyable weekend :D

Hi Julia

Enjoyed seeing Stephen's layout (and its operators) at the show, particularly his Western (would say that wouldn't I?) and the new buildings.

Maybe the future will see the appearance of some passenger stock (heaven forbid!) at Ynysarwed to provide transport for the inhabitants of his new houses?

... and just how long has that factory thingy at the front of the layout been under construction?

Hope you got to see 'de Hezelpoort 1927' in your limited time away from the Valleys - one of the most inspiring and original layouts that I've seen in a long time. Now... working cyclists and upside down fiddle yards in 2mm...

That is so true, Stephens layout is amazing, especially the engines and rolling stock considering nearly all of his stuff is scratch built too. If me engines can come anywhere near as good as his then I would be VERY happy. I dont think there would be any passenger stock on the layout though, it wouldnt really fit. The buildings on the layout have, as far as I know never been finished, his interest is in rolling stock.

I had a look when I was there but I think they were having a few problems as nothing was working and they were frantically working away behind the layout so I didnt get to see the cyclists but from what I saw the layout did look pretty special.

Hi,

Which spray booth did you get? I'm thinking of getting one next year.

Paul.

Hello Paul. I picked up one of those booths supplied by EXPO TOOLS, the code is AB500. There has been quite a bit of talk about them on RMWeb in the past.

Hi Missy,

Nice to see you at Warley on Sunday, and a big thank you for loaning 'little Elvis', the tank wagons and signals to go on our demo stand! :)

I thought it was a brilliant show - we had a really good level of interest in the 2mm demonstrations and layouts, and the 2mm Roadshow did good business. I didn't spend a lot, but did manage to get around most of the show over the two days.

I've never seen Bryn move as fast as when I told him the new 'Modern Locos Illustrated' magazine covered the Class 14/15/17s was out and that there were some on sale on the other side of the hall! :D

Stephen admitted that his layout isn't designed to be easy to operate, but the crowds around it all weekend were proof that the modelling is superb. I have heard a rumour that he is collecting/building passenger stock for a future layout.

How and why did the Banana get the "Elvis" name?? I don't recall seeing "rock n roll" in your blog tags! Although those tags are there to fool the natives, no doubt!

"The hall will be closing in 5 minutes"

I injured my ankle and almost flattened a few punters on my marathon sprint across the show. Worth every penny ;)

Thank you. Elvis came as a result of an earlier post (linky thing) and the name has kind of stuck since then.

I thought I'd followed your Banana Blogs but obviously missed Pt.III ! Sorry!

I'm so glad that "Elvis" is not a prediction of it's running performance!
