A happy coincidence!

I guess sometimes these things are just meant to happen!

It was necessary to swap the 4MT i bought just before Christmas after it developed an aversion to going backwards. A fairly critical requirement for the Ropley project! The only available replacement was the smaller tender version, which turns out is what I should have picked up in the first place! During more research for the project I now see that the 4MT based at the Mid Hants has the smaller tender, and so the model will now just need a re-number to 76017. The perils of a D&E man dabbling in steam! ;)

Anyway, the new 4MT is just as good a runner as the original and is happily trundling around my small oval of unitrack running in.

Also, I thought I’d post a couple of photos of the model which started this foray into the Steam world. Farish's lovely little 3MT tank. I know non of these survived to preservation (although I understand there is one being built 'as new' at the SVR) but it's such nice little model I couldn't resist!

Such a difference from just a few years ago, and these new models from Farish really make N steam just that bit more appealing to model.

Cheers all,

Tom.

I use to be the Trade Liason Officer for the N Gauge Society many many years ago and I am amazed at the progress that is being made in this scale. The models being produced in British outline are now the equal of anything produced for other countries.

Very nice indeed, the only aesthetic grumble I have with these recent Farish models is the shiny coal, though the tank engine looks to have plenty of space to add a little bit of the real thing!

(then I slap myself about the face and remind myself how far things have come, when I wer-a lad,I'd have been very happy to have a 4mm model with that level of detail!)

Looking forward to the next installment on the layout!

Hi Will.

There is enough room in the coal space on the 3MT to insert some real stuff. The 4MT could also have some if you remove the moulded metal coal and glue some real to a piece of plastic. You would loose some weight although for my purposes I think there is plenty of traction even without the metal coal load!

Now, where do I find N gauge coal.......
