To update those interested, Maenol Mine is still unfinished because I am in need of a specific paint base colour to finish the stone walls of the new mine building.

I hope to pick up a tin at the Cardiff exhibition this weekend.

If an attending trader is reading this??¦.please bring a tin or spray can of Precision Track Colour P991 ??“ you??™ve got a buyer.?

Hi Randy,

Did you get the paint?

Have you finished painting the building yet?

Come on, I want to see this one finished!

Cheers

Hi Marc..

Thanks for the encouragement...

No such luck, I'm afraid... and I'm now becoming desperate to get things finished...

The only paint available at the Cardiff exhibition on Saturday was RailMatch - I used Precision Track Dirt as the base coat for Maenol's walls.

Perhaps I can convince Mrs RW to come for a "run in the car" this week sometime.

Or maybe I should use Royal Mail?

I put off mail order pending my visit to Cardiff.

Anyway, there's not that much left to do...

1. Paint the new mine building.

2. Cut a layout backboard and fit.

3. Detail-paint the internals/externals of the Coal Screen building.

4. Final Assembly of the Coal Screen building.

5. Detail the area in front of the new mine building.

6. Finish off the grassworks and the trackbed weathering.

7. Fit the fencing around the graveyard.

8. Detail the Monument area.

9. Fit the Fiddleyard.

10. Acceptance Testing.

Not neccesarily in that order...

At my modelling pace, another year should see things rounded off... ?

Hi again Randall,

Interesting to note that you seem to have used Wills 4mm stone walling on your building at the rear of the shot above?

At Warley a few weeks back, there was a really nice BR blue mine layout, called

"Y Cae". The builder had used the same for an engine shed, and bridge on this layout.

Also, he'd used Wills' 4mm corrugated asbestos as corrugated iron...

...Gordon Gravett suggested this sometime ago, but I think this was only the 2nd time I'd seen it in practice on a 7mm layout. Again, it looked great!

I like the use of different materials, and differing shapes of the buildings in this little layout - keep modelling Randall, I really want to see this one finished!

...The best motivation, is to promise someone it'll be ready for a show!

Cheers

Marc :D

Hi Marc...

Thanks again for the encouragement....

It means a lot as your work is itself truly inspirational.

The walls of the Mine building are, as you rightly say, Wills - Random Coarse Stone to be precise.

I've used several items supposedly meant for 4mm scale, but they are overscale, really, and suit 7mm without looking out of place.

The Knightwing Security Fencing, and the Ratio Drainpipes come to mind.

Yep!, and I've also used Wills Corrugated Asbestos for the Coal Screen roof.

(If you refer back to one of the earlier photos of this building, you'll see that I had originally laid Slaters 7mm tiles on the roof - I wasn't happy, so I replaced the roof).

Gordon Gravett is one of my favourite modellers - I absolutely love Ditchling Green.

Things are still at a standstill though, as distractions have got in the way.

However, I promise that I will take things forward this week and order the paint, at the very least.wink.gif

I half-promised that I would take Maenol Mine to the RMWeb meet at Chacewater last June, but I decided to make several changes and they set me back.

Perhaps that might be one for the diary in 2010, or maybe the Taunton SWAG meeting???

Cardiff might be another.... Who would I get in touch with? (if they're prepared to forgive the 3-2 result at the weekend, of course biggrin.gif )

How is your 7mm Micro coming along?....

You've probably finished it already?

Hi Randall,

Sorry to have taken so long to reply!

...I just don't seem to be able to find things (even my own posts!!) on the new system.

..And as you've rightly summised - I'm still smarting from that defeat (+ Saturday's loss too!!!!)

Wow, thanks for saying that my stuff is inspirational! - I'm all embarassed now!

I've been pleased with my modelling lately - but don't think its' as good as you're suggesting...

...I just know how to hide the crap bits!

The O gauge you saw at Cardiff has moved on a little - but the really tiny O-micro hasn't been started.

I'm not sure which plan to give priority to - the O gauge yard, the O micro, or my next 4mm plan.

The latter is the one I'm thinking about most...

...must stop that - must focus.

Several of us have talked about a WAG do,

but there may even be a small show in the pipeline (a micro-modelling even which is separate from the WAG do, which we can join in with). I'll let you know, as I'm sure we could get "Maenol" in there, and it'd be great to see it in the flesh.

Go on....finish it...

Best

Marc :D

P.S. re your difficulty in getting paint.....Went to Warley on Saturday - None of the stuff I was hoping to buy was there...still spent to much though...
