Shed Doors 2 - Painting and Weathering
The shed doors have gone through the process of being painted and weathered. After a bit of digging on the net for suitable techniques, the end result was created using a mish mash of techniques and a bit of an experimenting.
As seen in the previous post, the doors were sprayed primer grey.
A base coat of Vallego German Desert Camo and White was mixed and applied in the direction of the grain this thick mix provided some of the textre. Once dry, a wash of Acrylic Dark German Grey was applied and swiftly removed from surfaces with a cotton bud, allowing it to stain corners.
Before this was dry a thick wash of Humbrol 64 (light grey) was applied and as it became tacky to touch, a cotton bud tip dipped in thinners was used to flick the bud in the direction of the grain. This was followed by a coat of Metallic 53 (Gunmetal), and removed as before.
A thick black wash was applied all over and removed the same as before, using the cotton bud to blend the colours and texture and create grain definition. Flicking the cotton bud here was key to avoid strong harsh grain lines.
A wash of Matt 113 ( a bit like Bauxite!) was applied over the entire door to create the work and weather worn once painted look.
The windows were treated with the same method - light brown enamel on the outside, light brown and gunmetal on the inside.
The doors still require a going over with weathering powders once completely dry and a few small bits require a gentle touch up from handling. Looking at the image one window frame has come loose....
